Gillespie County Fair Futurity
MPSHINNING
by Danny Camp
Fastest qualifier from the Aug. 11 trials, Mpshinning scored his first stakes victory in the $154,300 Gillespie County Fair Futurity
on Aug. 26.
The colt broke fourth from the 7-post under
Luis Vivanco and drifted out. They slowly gained ground to grab the lead in the stretch, exploding late and crossing the wire a neck in front.
They completed the 350 yards in :17.426, posting a career-best 106 speed index.
Mpshinning brought home the $54,005 winner’s share of the purse, boosting his total lifetime earnings to $70,205. The colt is owned by Larry J. Boudreaux and trained by Adrian Huitron.
This victory marks the colt’s third consecutive win from only four starts.
“They were having a little trouble breaking this colt, so
we started working with him and it took us a while to get him ready,” said Adrian.
“He didn’t do very good his first race, but since then he’s been a class act. He always eats good, travels good and he pulled up like a champ. You would never know he’s a stallion,” he contin- ued. “This horse was a Louisiana sale purchase for $27,000. We are looking down the road at the
million dollar race towards the end of the year in Louisiana.”
Jon and Donna McPherson bred Mpshinning out of unraced Shinningperrydash,
a half-sister to Tenacious,
who finished third in the 2015 First Down Dash Derby. Shinningperrydash has produced 100% winners from three starters, including Piloto Shiner, who was a finalist
in the 2017 Louisiana Bred Laddie Futurity-RG2 and Louisiana Champions Day
Juvenile-RG2. Mpshinning is her first stakes winner and top earner.
Dees Jetting Diva (Jet Black Patriot-La Boreal) was undefeated in three outs going into this race, but settled for second under Eddie Sanchez for owner Whitetail Weld LLC and trainer Jose Sanchez III.
Zooming Perry (Mr Jess Perry-Joezoom) was third under Francisco Ramirez Jr. for owner Rancho El Huajillo LLC and trainer Adrian Huitron.
Followed by Moons First CD (First Moonflash-Cindys First CD), Shapeshifter (Mighty B Valiant-Strawflying Dina), Jet Black King (Jet Black Patriot-Billyjeanthequeen), Enid Girl (First Moonflash-Ms Perrys Pilot), Shot of PYC (PYC Paint Your Wagon-Deedashing) and All Sophia Wanted (Five Bar Cartel-All I Ever Wanted). Gallo was scratched.
