Mexico Futurity Consolation
BR CHENCHO
by Luis Prieto Zamudio, translation by Speedhorse
The purse allocated for Mexico Futurity Consolation was $454,698 pesos ($22,303 U.S. approx.). All 10 qualifiers for this event participated, and BR Chencho was marked favorite to take to his account the biggest part of the purse, that is $227,349 pesos ($11,151 U.S. approx.).
BR Chencho qualified with :13.095, having come within .003 thousandths of a second
of matching the fifth-place finisher on the
first day of trials. It should be noted that, competing in other races, this colt showed remarkable qualities, so his owners decided to pay the late fee of $150,000 pesos ($7,357 U.S. approx.) to obtain the right to participate in this futurity.
In the main event it was observed that SC Watchful Gol (#6) was interfered with by Shine Del Corcel (#5) and Flash One DK (#7), who came from opposite directions and cut him
off. The other participants had no trouble, highlighted by BR Chencho (#2) at the head of the group by a slim margin, where he remained and endured the challenge of his rivals under the direction of Martín Alvarado to cross the finish line of the 250-yard event a neck ahead of Jabuti Dominike.
With the time of :13.04 recorded in this race, he improved his qualifying time and brought to his record the second win in two starts, with a respectable speed index of 91.
The gray colt is the
property of the Cuadra
Bronco Rider whose owner, Maximiliano Pérez, is also his breeder. He is trained by Ismael Parra Martínez. He is the only son of the stallion Klimene Feature SA (by Feature Mr Jess), and he is out of the mare Stage Gulch (by Separatist), who in turn is the dam of BR Centauro Del Sur (by Southern Corona) and the winner of the Carlos Antonio Sosa Valencia Classic.
The colt was presented at the 2021 Select Yearling Sale as Hip #57, reaching a modest price of $140,000 pesos ($6,722 U.S. approx.) and was repurchased by his consignor.
The award ceremony was headed by Javier Rosique León and Dr. Anselmo Aguilar Payán, President and Treasurer, respectively, of the Board of Directors of the Mexican Association of Breeders and Horsemen of Quarter Horses, who presented the trophies to the winning
team, represented by Maximiliano Pérez, his wife and son of the same name, along with trainer Ismael Parra Martínez.
In second place was
Jabuti Dominike (Jabuti Eagle SA-Dominike, Foose) under the leadership of Mario
Alberto López Marmolejo. She is owned by Cuadra Ortiz and was trained Ismael Ayala Salas. She was bred by Salomé Gallegos.
In third place was the gelding Flash One DK (Bullish One-After Hours Affair, Mr Jess Perry) with his rider Silvestre Mar. He is owned by Cuadra H-R, trained by Ismael Ayala and bred by Cuadra La Presita.
RG Golden Eagle (Swingin Corona-RG Malefika Cartel), Polliticalmaster (BP Apollitical Policy-EC Coronela), Sold Black (Danny Cartel-La Texana Tree), ELC Shake The Rocks (Corona On The Rocks-Chile Shake), Shine Del Corcel (El Corcel-Shine
On Linda), SC Watchful Gol (Watchful Vigilance-JA Gols Cimarron Gal) and Pakal Choice SJ (Perrys First Choice-Raydens Dance) completed the order of finish.
