The photo on page 208 shows War Chant (Three Bars TB-Hula Girl P, Ed Echols). Foaled in 1952, War Chant was bred by Art Pollard and was sired by AQHA Hall of Fame Horse Three Bars TB and out of stakes winner Hula Girl P. War Chant is a half-brother to 1955 Champion Gelding Arizonan, who set three New Track Records.
War Chant began his career on the track in 1954 at the age of two and raced until he was four years old. During this time, he made an impressive 23 starts, winning three races, including the 1954 PCQHRA Futurity, which is now named the Ed Burke Million Futurity-G1. In 1954, he was the only Quarter Horse to set a New World Record for two year olds over a muddy track for 300 yards.
After his time on the track, War Chant moved to the breeding shed where he sired 48 winners, 10 of which were black type earners. His stakes winners included stakes winner/2-time New Track Record setter Warrior’s Chant, stakes winner/New Track Record setter War Patch, Iowa Owned & Bred Derby winner Wiggle, Hustling Man Stakes winner Chantabar, San Francisco Handicap winner Mobile’s Chant, and Bay Meadows 2 Year Old Championship Division 1 winner Bardella Too.
This year’s $960,000 Ed Burke Million Futurity-G1 winner was Party Politics, who completed the 350 yards in :17.611 under Ramon Sanchez for owner JGA Racing Stables Inc. and trainer Juan Aleman.
