Heritage Place Foal In Utero Online Sale
Heritage Place Sales Company will hold their first “Champions of The Future”
Foal in Utero sale online from Dec. 13-15, with the consignment list, catalog pages, photos, and recipient mare details posted online on Nov. 25. The auction format will be the same one currently used for internet bidding, although in a timed format. Consignment forms and more information can be found at www.heritageplace.
com under the “Champions of The Future” sale tab.
Application For Kentucky QH Track
Revolutionary Racing on June 21 made
a presentation to the Kentucky Horse
Racing Commission (KHRC) for plans
to open a Quarter Horse track and casino
in Ashland near the borders of Ohio and West Virginia and submitted application
for the final racetrack license in the state
of Kentucky. According to Revolutionary Racing co-founders Larry Lucas and Prentice Salter, plans are to spend approximately $55 million on the facility and offer $500,000 in purses per day, with a projected $500 million in annual handle through the casino. The KHRC will begin its due-diligence process. Revolutionary Racing in 2018 purchased Colonial Downs in Virginia, in partnership with Peninsula Pacific, which then acquired all interest in the properties in 2022. Churchill Downs then announced a deal
to purchase nearly all the company’s assets, including several large casinos, Colonial Downs and its OTB’s, for $2.5 billion.
John Andreini Memorial Scholarship Award Winners
The 2022 John Andreini Scholarship award winners were recognized in the winner’s circle at Ruidoso Downs on May 30 following the running of the John Andreini Memorial, which was won by Hesa Party Wagon. The scholarship recipients are Bailey Ziegler, Brooklyn Stephenson, Abegail Lopez, Shaden Marr, Karsyn Reed, Mathew Gonzales and Ryder Foix. The fund awards deserving students involved in the equine industry with financial assistance towards a college education and is named in honor of the late John Andreini.
Wyoming Youth Racing Experience
Wyoming Downs in Evanston held two special young adult/youth racing experiences on June 23-26 and July 8-10. The first event was a hands-on internship course for college students customized to the individual, while the second event was open to those aged 15 and over and included access to horsemen, racehorses, and racing officials.
Stormy Smith To Be Inducted Into Prairie Meadows Racing Hall of Fame
Prairie Meadows Racetrack and Casino announced that jockey Stormy Smith is to be inducted into its Racing Hall of Fame on July
9. Stormy Smith has ridden the earners of over $1.9 million in Thoroughbred races and more
than $18.7 million in Quarter Horse races. “I’m honored, Prairie Meadows has been my home away from home for over 20 years now,” said Smith.
Callan John Lejeune Passes Away
Longtime horseman Callan John Lejeune, 83, passed away May 28 in Rayne, Louisiana. Lejeune owned and operated BSC WaterCare for 38 years and Lejeune Cash Grocery for 18 years. He was a breeder, owner and trainer of racehorses for over 55 years, and was a member of the Louisiana Quarter Horse Breeders Association and Louisiana Thoroughbred Breeders Association. Lejeune is survived by his wife Susie, a daughter and four sons, 18 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren and many other family members and friends.
Margaret McKerley Passes Away
Breeder Margaret Langford McKerley passed away on May 19 in Louisiana. Margaret graduated with a master’s degree in Special Education and worked as a teacher. She met C.O. “Mac” McKerley in 1952 and they were married for 59 years, and together they had three children. Mac was an AQHA director and Margaret enjoyed racing. She was the breeder and owner of 2021 LQHBA Louisiana Million Invitational winner Flying Adelia. Margaret was preceded in death by her husband and is survived by her children, seven grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and numerous other family members and friends.
Steve Holland Passes Away
Longtime horseman and rancher Robert Steven Holland, 82, of Florida, passed away on June 1. Holland was involved in horseracing, mostly in
Louisiana, in
the name of T
M Ranch with

than $2.4 million.

Jack Manning Passes Away
Jack Manning, 96, passed away peacefully on June 12 in Odessa, Texas. Manning joined the U.S. Army at age 18 and served in France, Belgium,
Czechoslovakia, and Japan during World War II, where he was honorably discharged with
the rank of staff
sergeant. After
the war, he moved
back to Odessa and
found work in the
Texas oilfields. He married Ina Joyce Motley in 1947, and together they had two sons. He and a friend founded Rock Tool Company in 1970, and he later bought his out his partner. The business involved oil and gas, service, real estate, banking, ranching, and breeding horses. Horses owned by Jack earned over $1.2 million, including Grade 1 winner Rock Solid Jess. He was a member of the AQHA and Jockey Club in Ruidoso Downs. He was preceded in death by his wife and is survived by sons C. Jack and Bob D. Manning, 7 step- grandchildren and many great grandchildren, family members and friends.
  Royal Quick Flash Dies
Royal Quick Flash si 110 (Royal Quick Dash- Venice Song, Hempen TB) recently died from natural causes at the age of 26. The 1996 Paint stallion was named the 1998 World Champion Running Paint Horse, Champion 2 Year Old
and Champion 2-Year-Old Colt, and the 1999 Champion 3 Year Old and Champion 3-Year-Old Colt. Royal Quick Flash earned $53,877 winning 9 races, including the APHA National Paint Championship Futurity. He also was third in the Paint The Town Futurity and Lorelei Paint Derby, fourth in the Lorelei Paint Futurity, and a finalist in the Speedhorse Paint & Appaloosa Futurity. Royal Quick Flash is the #1 all-time leading Paint sire of money earners with over $7.3 million, including 599 wins and 92 stakes wins.
