TEMPTED SEIS
by John Moorehouse
Tempted Seis just wouldn’t be denied in the Speedhorse Futurity-G3. Owner Rogelio Marquez Jr.’s filly outdueled Relentless Jessie to win the $188,700 stakes, which was held July 27 at Fair Meadows.
A two-year-old bay filly, Tempted Seis now holds two wins in three starts. She broke her maiden in the July 12 trials for the Speedhorse Futurity, but even with the win in her 350- yard heat, her time of :17.756 was the eighth- best clocking.
In her first-ever futurity attempt, the filly proved to be the fastest of the field. Tempted Seis broke fifth from the inside starting gate, and was running third at the first call behind Relentless Jessie and Rockcreek Blues.
While Rockcreek Blues faded after getting bobbled and bumped, Tempted Seis just found more speed. She overtook Relentless Jessie to lead by a head entering the stretch.
Their duel went all the way to the wire, where jockey Mario Delgado had Tempted Seis up by a neck.
The stakes-winning 350-yard trip took :17.837, registering an 89 speed index.
Tempted Seis, who is trained by R.L. Robinson, brought home a $71,706 payday for her connection that increased her total bank- roll to $76,257.
“The filly was in her A game,” said jockey Delgado. “She was relaxed in the post parade. Very focused.
“She got a little nervous in the gates, but she left there running. She fought me a little bit - I think
she was shying away from something on the inside - and I had to help her stay up there.
“She pulled up good and
I couldn’t be more happy. I
just saw her at the barn on
the walker and she was bucking and kicking. I think the more she runs, the better she’s going
to get. I can see her improving a lot,” the jockey concluded.
Copper Spring Ranch LLC, bred Tempted Seis and also owns her dam, Senorita Seis, a 2006 mare who is stakes-placed.
Senorita Seis’ sire is Tres Seis, a Champion 2-Year- Old Colt during the 2001 campaign.
Tempted Seis was foaled in Montana, and made
her competitive debut in a maiden race held in early June at Fair Meadows. She finished second by just a neck in that one.
Relentless Jessie (Hes Relentless-Jess A Queen) was in the lead at the first and second calls, and finished
a very game second for
owner Manuel Mata, who also trains the filly. Daniel Torres drew the riding assignment.
