Getit Together
    by John Moorehouser
Getit Hot notched her sec- ond stakes win on July 28 at Grande Prairie, and put herself
in position for a major payday, with her 1/2-length victory in the $36,463 Adequan Evergreen Park Derby Challenge.
Owned by Charles Stojan, Getit Hot has recorded both of her stakes wins this year, also taking the All Canadian Derby held at Whoop Up Downs in Lethbridge back in June. She was the third-fastest qualifier for this race, covering the 400 yards in :20.748.
Returning for the stakes final, the sophomore filly clearly was the fastest in the seven-horse field. After break- ing from the 4-gate, she was running in front by a head at the first call, widened her separation to 1-length as she entered the stretch, then held off Papas Coleen to roll to the win and a spot in the Adequan Championship Challenge, to be held as part of Bank of America Challenge Champonships
night on Oct. 26 at The Downs in Albuquerque.
William Leech trains Getit Hot and Ricardo Moreno was aboard for the stakes-winning trip, which reaped a $17,867 payday that improved the filly’s total earnings to $39,376.
Martha F. Wells bred Getit Hot out of California Hi-Point Aged Mare Getit Together, winner of
the Las Damas Handicap-G3 and AQHA Member Plus Stakes. She was also a runner-up in the Charge Bar Handicap-G2 and the Ivan Ashment Handicap. Getit Together has pro- duced 100% money earners from seven starters, including Gteit Quick, who ran third in the Paul B Ford Memorial Handicap. Getit Hot is her first stakes winner and top earner.
Her second dam is four-time winner Seronka, a runner-up in the Solano Derby and a finalist in the California Sires’ Cup Futurity-G2 and Stockton Derby. She also
ran third in the Fountain Valley
Handicap as well as fourth in the QHBA Distaff Classic Stakes.
Papas Coleen (First Timber-Cash In This Lane), the post-time favorite and top qualifier, finished second under Trevor Simpson for owner Donalda Cochrane and trainer Darcy Hawkes.
Chasin Harm (Hawkinson-YR Brown Lucy) and jockey Carl Hebert hit the board in third for Alvin Cross Child, who also trains the gelding.
The remaining order of finish was Last Unicorn (Unification TB-Teller Reba), Goldin
Warrior (First Timber-Madam Goldilocks), Timbersknightryder (First Timber-Sparkling Hy) and You Have No Equal (Five Bar Cartel-Latin Queen).
