Eazy Street certainly ran to his name in the $45,370 Ontario Bred Futurity at Ajax Downs on
July 14, registering a facile victory over six rivals to remain undefeated in his first two career starts.
With Tony Phillips riding for trainer Bryn Robertson and owners Carol and Jaime Robertson, Eazy Street broke sharply from the 2-gate in the 300-yard dash and assumed command from the starting gate. He powered away from the field, widen- ing his lead to 2-lengths in the lane. He maintained that advantage to the finish line, easily scoring by that margin at the wire as the odds-on wagering favorite.
In winning for the second time in as many outings, Eazy Street stopped the timer in :15.880, earning an 82 speed index. The $19,307 (U.S) win- ner’s share of the purse, padded his earnings to $24,855.
Guylaine Paquin bred Eazy Street out of lightly raced Easily Holland. She has produced 100% money earners from eight starters, including Hickerson, who was a runner-up in the Alex Picov Memorial as well as the Picov Derby.
Silken Siri (Desirio-Silken Memories) and jockey Ramiro Castillo chased the winner through- out, finishing a clear second for own- ers/breeders Joyce and Erik Lehtinen.
The bay filly, who was saddled by Erik, also finished second to Eazy Street in a June maiden event at Ajax Downs.
Belinda Taggart’s homebred Fireball X15 (Star Fire Dash-Dazzlin Lady) finished third under Ed Walton. The sorrel gelding was off slowly and recovered with a solid run to pick up the stakes-placing for trainer Jason Pascoe.
Wavin Bac Atya (Wave Carver- Bac To Center), One Kool Dynasty (FDD Dynasty-One Kool Bud), Kits Award (Winners Award- Kitarisa) and first-time starter Hanover Hill Chalsee (Make Out Artist-Secret Sugarwoman) com- pleted the order of finish.
