The Ruidoso New Mexico Bred Sale was held Aug. 18-19 at the Ruidoso Downs Sales Pavilion. Quarter Horses yearlings sold both Friday and Saturday, with Thoroughbreds selling Friday as well. And during the Saturday sale, a special Ruidoso Select Foal-In-Utero sale was held.
Reflecting Quarter Horse yearling sales only, preliminary figures saw stable numbers with gross sales nearing $1.8 million and the average sale price reaching $11,400. From 174 horses offered, 141 sold compared to 140 of 185 head that sold in 2016.
The high seller at $85,000 was Hip #254 Red Diamond (Jesse James Jr-Alice K White, First Down Dash), a sorrel gelding con- signed by MJ Farms, Agent and purchased by John W. Lee and Melvin Neugebauer.
Red Diamond is a full-brother to Champion Astica and a half-brother to 2017 All American Futurity-G1 fastest qualifier and Grade 1 winner Bigg Daddy. Red Diamond is out of Champion Alice K White. The sec- ond-highest seller at $65,000 was Hip #153 J Gatsby (Jesse James Jr-Maggies Miracle LX, Dean Miracle), a sorrel gelding consigned
by MJ Farms, Agent for Benny Smith and purchased by Bobby Simmons and Mark McCloy. J Gatsby is a full-brother to Grade 2 winner Datona Doll.
