CAZZADORES
by Dillon Hamilton
Cazzadores legged out an impressive victory against a zealous field for his first stakes victory in the $15,000 Live Oak Handicap for Texas-bred
three year olds and up at Retama Park on Aug. 11. Cazzadores, a 3-year-old sorrel gelding, broke
from the 5-post in second. He quickly ran out to a nose lead at first call. His closest rival, Sochi Special, challenged him down the length of the track, but jockey Juan Vazquez kept the gelding in front. The pair’s lead didn’t change much at the stretch where they continued to fend off Sochi Special and a close third, Barefoot Beach. They crossed the wire a head in front, running the distance in :17.724 and earning a 99 speed index.
Cazzadores’ $8,500 loot brought his lifetime earnings to $34,409 for owners Abel H. Flores, Jr. and Eleazar Martinez and trainer Yasmine M. Fiero. The gelding’s season earnings summed to $14,050.
Jorge Haddad bred the gelding out of stakes winner Cindys First CD who won the 2001 Manor Downs Handicap Invitational. She has produced 100% earners from 12 starters, including stakes win- ners Pronto Alex and Easydoesitcindy, her top earner.
Sochi Special (Ivory James-Rc Shake Em Blue) gave game effort under Francisco Calderon and fin- ished second for owner Pamela S. Stone and trainer Leon Bard.
Barefoot Beach (Ivory James-Babe On the Beach) finished third under Noe Villatoro for owner Samuel Martinez and trainer Trey Ellis.
Charm the Chief (Chief Corona-Charming Illusions), Mighty Corona Jr (Mighty Corona-Jarons Jet), Scarface Cartel (The Louisiana Cartel-Time For Lilly), Here Comes Callan (Fantastic Corona Jr-Evans Express), Zoomin Cat (Azoom-The
Rare Cat) & Kraken Black (First Down Mr Jess- Lajollaslastthought) completed the field.
Hazel Park Futurity
TOUGHDASHINGANGEL
by Tracy Gantz
Toughdashingangel likes his home state of Michigan. The colt ran his record at Michigan’s Hazel Park to a perfect two for two by capturing the Hazel Park Futurity on Aug. 11.
Drawn into post two and ridden by Natasha Fritz, Toughdashingangel went off as the 6-1 fourth choice in the seven-horse field. He broke on top and dominated throughout the 300 yards, vanquishing favored Got Sand In My Shoes by 1-length at the wire. Toughdashingangel stopped the timer in :16.032 and earned a career best 81 speed index.
Mallory Norton trains Toughdashingangel for owner Sylvia Tello. Prior to his foray at Hazel Park, Toughdashingangel had started only once at Indiana Grand racetrack. The colt broke his maiden in his initial Hazel Park start, winning by a neck at 250 yards. The $9,000 winner’s share of this futurity pushed the colt’s earnings to $14,345.
Ronnie Fisk bred Toughdashingangel in Michigan from stakes winner Tuff Ladys. She is the winner of the 2003 GLQHA Michigan-Bred Championship and was also third in the 2002 Don Boyd Memorial Handicap. Both races were run at Mount Pleasant Meadows in Michigan.
Tuff Ladys has produced 100% earners from seven starters, including top earner Time To Get Rough, who set a New Track Record at Hazel Park for 300 yards in 2016, and Struttin Feathers, a finalist in the 2008 Grade 3 Mt. Pleasant Meadows Budweiser Futurity. Undefeated from two starts, Toughdashingangel is Tuff Ladys first stakes winner.
Anthony Cunningham trains the second and third place horses, Got Sand In My Shoes (Palm Beach-Carman Copy) and Blaines Captain (Captain Courage-Bye Bye Blaine).
Cristian Esqueda piloted Got Sand In My Shoes, who is owned by Pattie Marshall and Craig Zeneberg. Got Sand In My Shoes won one of three races at Indiana Grand prior to the Hazel Park Futurity.
Cunningham owns Blaines Captain, who was ridden by Cesar Esqueda. In two previous starts, Blaines Captain finished second once.
Rounding out the field were Lexi Cartel (Cartels Feature-Cash For Lenzee), Carolina Sizzler (Sizzlin Cartel-Louisiana Indigo), Apollitical Deb (Apollitical Jess-Precious Debutante), and Clickerslittledasher (Dashair-Shes Just A Clicken).
