New Mexico Racing Commission Moves Forward With Hair Testing
The New Mexico Racing Commission will pull hair samples from all qualifiers to this year’s All American Futurity and Derby at Ruidoso Downs. The new rule, which allows the NMRC to place a horse on the stewards list for 60 days if it found to be positive for a prohibited substance, has proven effective with four of the first six horses testing posi- tive. New Mexico had 169 drug violations in 2016.
Oklahoma Therapeutic Threshold Levels
The Oklahoma Horse Racing Commission has revised threshold levels for Therapeutic Medications, which took effect Aug. 15, to be consistent with cur- rent ARCI Uniform Medication Guidelines. There are new medications listed and many previously established levels have been significantly reduced. Planning Commission Approves Kentucky Racetrack Development
The Corbin Planning and Zoning Commission in Kentucky during a special Aug. 1 meeting approved a new development plat for a proposed Quarter Horse track. Although there is no schedule for construction, plans include a track, barn facili- ties, entertainment center, and grandstand. The 149-acre property also has six parcels for commer- cial development and property allocated for a hotel. The project is expected to create an estimated 2,000 jobs and $10 million in tax revenue.
Harold Bray Memorial Service Held
A memorial service for Harold Bray was held July 28 in Choctaw, Oklahoma. Bray passed away July 23 at the age of 90. He and his wife, Louise, bred and owned many stakes horses, including Chick Called Happy and Miss Six Moons. Harold is survived by his wife and two sons, as well as many other family members and friends.
Dash Master Miss Dies
Leading broodmare Dash Master Miss (Dash For Destiny-Uno Mas Tiempo, Master Hand TB) was laid to rest on July 29 at Scarlett Hill Farms in Weatherford, Texas. The 28-year-old mare earned $249,430 winning 6 stakes races, including the Kansas Derby-G1. She received the AQHA Dam of Distinction honor in 2014 as the dam of 2-time Champion Significant Speed, 9-time stakes winner Push The Pace, 3-time stakes winner Dash Master Jess, and many others.
This Candys Awesome Dies
This Candys Awesome (PYC Paint Your Wagon-Jess Send Candy, Mr Jess Perry) died Aug. 14. The 2011 bay mare earned $434,265, winning 11 starts, including the Juno’s Request Stakes-G2, Remington Park Oklahoma
Bred Derby-RG3, Decketta Stakes-G3, Higheasterjet Handicap-G3, and the Easy Date Handicap. She also set a New Track Record at Remington Park in 2014, covering 330-yards in :16.344. Her last start was a wire-to-wire vic- tory in the Junos Request Stakes at Remington Park on June 4, 2016. This Candys Awesome was the 2014 OQHRA Champion Three
Year Old and the 2016 OQHRA Oklahoma Owned Aged Mare. The mare was owned
by PV Quarter Horses LLC, and she led the procession at the funeral for her breeder Carl Pevehouse.

Peter Cofrancesco III Passes Away
AQHA past president Peter J. Cofrancesco III, 45, passed away Aug. 1. Cofrancesco was elected to the AQHA Executive Committee in 2008 and served as president from 2011-2012, focusing on youth expansion and develop- ment. He was influential in forming the World Conformation Horse Association, an AQHA alliance partner that has an annual futurity as well as classes at major shows including the AQHA World Championship Show. Just months after leaving the AQHA presidency in 2012, Peter returned to
the World Show ring to earn two World Champion titles. Cofrancesco, who showed a total of 18 World Champions and 14 Reserve World Champion since 1991, was inducted into the American Quarter Horse Hall of Fame in March of this year. He is survived by his wife, Carmen, three children, and many more family members and friends.
