Velocidad Classic
DANCER FISHERS
by Luis Prieto Zamudio, translation by Eduardo Silveyra
With 11 runners four years or older, this traditional speed test was performed at 250 yards, where the only representative of Mexican breeding was Dancer Fishers. The allocated purse was $391,100 pesos (approx. $20,897 US dollars), where 60% would go to the winner.
Among the entrants appeared Jess La Jolla Blue, winner of the Champion of Champions in December of 2017, as well as the filly Cruzin And Boozin, who has won the Felix Bañuelos Jiménez Classic.
Jess She Thinks (#4) stumbled leaving the gate, while JP Specially Special (#7) faced traffic problems that forced his rider to change their trajectory towards the right side. BP Southern Cash (#8) followed with these horses at the rear of the group. During this time, a battle was waged at the center of the group, with the grey Dancer Fishers (#5) at the front, who responded to the demands of rider Israel Domínguez Morales and dualed with Carl Fourteen (#9) and Copper Stop (#11).
Dancer Fishers accomplished the feat by winning his first stakes by a head over Carl Fourteen in a time of :12.98 (98 speed index) for the pride of Rancho Humilde (Humble Ranch),
whose owners posed with their horse, rider and other team members in the winner’s circle.
“We are very happy with this win because it is the first clasico that we won, and also since we are a small team and are of recent incursion in the Hipódromo de las Américas, where the com- petition is very difficult,” expressed a very happy Oscar García, representing Rancho Humilde.
The winning 4-year-old colt is the son of Ze Dancer and out of Natalia
Fishers (by Fishers Dash). He
was bred by Felix Bañuelos
in his Cuadra Hacienda Vieja, located in the State of Jalisco, and has won seven
of 14 outs, including one second and two thirds. As a two year old, Dancer Fishers finished third in the Mexican Breeders Futurity, a position he repeated the following year in the corresponding derby. To this we must add
a second place in the Selecta Auction Derby.
“The taste of this victory is greater because he imposed himself on horses imported from
the United States, even though in the previous two seasons he could not beat Mexican coun- terparts his age,” said Oscar moments after the triumph. “I think the 250 yards were very good for his abilties and competitive capacity,” he concluded.
Trained by Ramón Guerrero Trejo, the colt added $234,660 pesos (approx. $12,539 US dollars) to his bank account, which is already
close to $1,250,000 pesos. Carl Fourteen (Ivory
James-Sweethearts Lady) made a valiant effort and was second under Moisés González García. The colt belongs to Rancho Las Gavias, and his trainer is Ángel Gustavo Magdaleno.
For third place closed
the gelding Copper Stop (Apollitical Jess-Answer The Dream) under the direction of Alejandro Gómez. He is owned by Rancho El Suspiro
and trained by Oscar Romo García. The order of arrival was completed
