Coming off a fourth place finish in the March 3 Terrific Energy Handicap, Strawfinders Jessee soared to her second stakes victory in the $18,000

broke sharply on top from the 4-post in the 350-yard dash. At the halfway mark, it was Jess Hawk that took the lead, but Strawfinders Jessee and jockey Cesar DeAlba rallied to win by a nose at the wire in :17.440, which is one of the fastest 350-yard clockings of the meet. She also posted a career-best 99 speed index.
“She’s gotten better with age,” said Cooper. “She looks like she really wants to run further. That’s as good as I’ve seen her leave the starting gate.”
The $9,900 winner’s share of the purse boosted her total lifetime earnings to $117,967. Her
other stakes win was in the Denim N Diamonds Handicap on Feb. 17. She has also placed in five other stakes events, including a 2nd in the 2017 Las Damas Handicap-G3 and a 3rd in the 2018 Charger Bar Handicap-G1.
C.K. and Laurel Allen bred Strawfinders Jessee out of 3-time winner Strawfinder. The mare has produced two starters/winners. Strawfinders Jessee is her first stakes winner and top money earner.
“We’re so fortunate to have her,” said C.K. “We’re fortunate to have John Cooper as our trainer. We’re so thankful for both. It’s been a fun season.”
EG High Desert Farms’ homebred Jess Hawk (One Sweet Jess-Merridoc Hawk) finished second under jockey Cruz Mendez for trainer Jesus Nunez.
Eduardo Nicasio rode Designs By Dynasty (FDD Dynasty-Terrific Energy) to third for owner Carlos Avalos and trainer Yanet Rodriguez.
Hootin For Hotlips (Fantastic Corona Jr-Hot Lips Perry), Zendaya (Foose-Red Hawk Chick) and Tough To Figure (Walk Thru Fire-Big Jan) com- pleted the order of finish.
