THE SIRE RECORD
It was in 1967 that Paul and Doris Travis bought a ranch that became the Travis Ranch of Norman, Oklahoma. The Travises moved to Oklahoma to raise Quarter Horses. They bought the ranch from C.F. Boyington. Two stallions came with the ranch, Tiny Watch and Three Chicks. Both were bred by Vessels, with Three Chicks being a full brother to Triple Chick and The Ole Man.
Tiny Watch went on to sire 278 start- ers with 136 ROM and 29 stakes horses, including 13 stakes winners earning over $1.3 million. His leading money earner was Tiny’s Gay, the 1974 World Champion, Champion 2 Year Old and the Champion 2-Year-Old Colt. He won 12 of this thirteen starts with four stakes wins in such races
as the 1974 Kansas Futurity and the 1974 Rainbow Futurity. He was second in the 1974 All American Futurity to Easy Date. Tiny’s Gay earned $444,721.
Tiny Watch as the broodmare sire had foals that won over $1.4 million with 434 starters and 235 ROM. This includes 34 stakes horses with 18 stakes winners. The leading money winner in this group was Watch Me Uncle with earnings of $83,035 winning races like the 1979 Graduation Handicap, the 1980 Pot O’Gold Derby and the 1981 Portland Handicap.
THE CROSSOVER CONNECTION
We will begin our look at the crossover connection with Dutch Watch, a 1975 gelding by Tiny Watch, and Gotewin Bo, a 1990 great grandson of Tiny Watch. These two geldings will tell us a lot about the Tiny Watch Crossover Connection.
Dutch Watch (Dutch) started as a stakes placed racehorse, finishing second in the 1977 Prineville Futurity. He left the track to earn tenth place in the 1978 National Reined
Triple Lady is the dam of Tiny Watch’s 1966 Co-Champion Duplicate Copy.
Clabber is by My Texas Dandy, a son
of Porte Drapeau TB by Sunstar. You will recall that Sunstar was the sire of North Star III, the sire of Step Away, the second dam
of Anchor Watch. This gives Tiny Watch a breeding pattern of 5x6 to Sunstar. Sunstar was by Sundridge, a speed specialist in Eng- land. He won consistently at 5 & 6 furlongs, including the July Cup at Newmarket, a 6-furlong (1,207 meters), race three times in 1902, 1903 and 1904.
The dam of My Texas Dandy was Sadie M by Little Dick. Clabber was reportedly out of Blondie S by Lone Star by the Thor- oughbred Gold Enamel. The dam of Blondie S was Emory Goldman by Captain Joe. Some pedigree researchers have reported that a mare named Golden Girl by Possum is the dam of Clabber. Possum was a full brother to Little Joe, the sire of Captain Joe.
Frank Vessels and Huntley Gordon bought Do Good in 1945. Her first foal for Vessels was Clabber II in 1946. She went
on to be the dam of horses like Champion Chicado V, the dam of Champion War Chic, as well as leading sires Triple Chick, Three Chicks and The Ole Man.
Do Good is the dam of Do Good Bam,
the dam of Alamitos Bar a leading sire and a sire of Champions. Do Good Bam was the dam of Ought To Go, an AQHA Dam of Distinction that produced horses like stakes winners Fishers Favorite, Garland Stephens and Ought To Be First. Ought To Go is the granddam of horses like Champion Solvency and leading sire Mr Eye Opener.
The registration application for Do Good shows that she was sired by St Louis by Eck Davis TB by Kilkerran. St Louis was out of Old Flossie by Baby. Do Good was out of Flossie by Duggan. The registration applica- tion says that Duggan was sired by Baby. This gives the pedigree of Do Good a breeding pattern of 3x3 to Baby. Flossie was out Old Floridene by Harmon Baker by Peter McCue. Old Floridene was out of Little Dutch by Clay McGonigal and out of Old Dutch.
The 1946 Thoroughbred mare Tiny Iny, who was the dam of Clabber Tiny, raced only at three going unplaced in two starts. She became a broodmare, with her first foal a Thoroughbred named Tiny Bam, who had 8 wins earning $21,562. Tiny Iny produced three more Thoroughbred runners in Lady Wampum, Tiny War and Tiny Power, all winners. Tiny Iny produced seven Quarter Horse foals with five starters, including the ROM runners Clabber Tiny, Tiny Clabber,
