to One Dashing Eagle, as both are out of the mare One Sweet Dash. At the 2011 Ruidoso Select Yearling Sale, they paid $43,000 for One Dashing Eagle, who was bred by the Allred Brothers.
“We’re just glad that we’re here and we know we can accomplish things with this kind of horse,” said Jose De La Torre. “He’s been great. This pedigree—with One Sweet Dash, Walk Thru Fire, all that family—is a great, great pedigree. We have to thank (the late) Jerry Allred (of breeder Allred Brothers). He’s watching this. He helped us a lot.”
One Dashing Eagle is the third stakes winner for his dam, One Sweet Dash. She has also produced Canadian stakes win-
ner and track record setter Hes A Standout, and is a full sister to leading sire Walk Thru Fire. (Read more about One Dashing Eagle’s pedigree in Larry Thornton’s article, “An All American Pedigree—The Allred Brothers” on page 44 of this issue of Speedhorse.)
“We are grateful to the Allred Brothers— they have done so much for the horse industry,” said Gustavo De La Torre. “We bought both of these horses and have done real good with them. We are thrilled. There are no words.”
“This is the race that everybody wants
to be in and win,” said co-owner Jorge Carmona, of San Gregorio Racing Stable. “It feels so great to have a colt like this. Jose and his crew have done a great job.”
One Dashing Eagle will now return to California for the Golden State Million Futurity-G1 trials on Oct. 21.
21 Partnership’s runner-up Sudden Thoughts (Wave Carver-Cee Cee Otoole) also finished second to One Dashing Eagle in their All American Futurity trial. The Eduardo Gonzalez trainee was the 10th and final qualifier to the All American Futurity, his first stakes appearance. He was a $14,000 Ruidoso Select Yearling Sale purchase and earned $350,000 for running in the All American Futurity.
“I’m happy with my horse. He ran a good second. No excuses, ran good,” said jockey Rodrigo Aceves.
Third-place finisher Aha Moment (No Secrets Here-Thrill And Grace) was trained by Paul Jones and ridden by Saul Ramirez Jr. He earned $185,000 for owners Jimmy and Marilyn Harrel, who bought the colt for $29,000 at the Ruidoso Select Yearling Sale.
The top three were followed by Native Tea Rose (First Down Dash-St Pats Tea), Just Wanna Corona (Stel Corona-Just Wanna Be Me), PJ Chick In Black (Desirio- Eddie Jym), BP Cartels Alibi (Corona Cartel-My Ladys Alibi), Mr Perry Cartel (Carters Cartel-Miss Lena Perry), and Krash Cartel (Corona Cartel-Race Valentine). Jess A Zoomin was scratched.
