  San Juan Memorial Futurity.
Cherry Sweet is the dam of Sweet Feast. An
AA-rated runner, Cherry Sweet is sired by Cus- tus Rastus-TB. She produced nine starters with five ROM with two stakes winners that have won five stakes races. Cherry Zip won the Dixie Downs Futurity, and Sweet Feast won the rest.
We have looked at this tail female line show- ing the stakes power that has come out of it. But when we get to the next mare in the line we see something different than what we saw with Miss Bank. Cherry Chub is the dam of Cherry Sweet. Cherry Chub produced only two starters with two winners winning only three races—no stakes horses and only $3,034 in earnings. Yet when we look at the pedigree of Cherry Chub we see some great foundation blood.
Cherry Chub’s sire is Chubby Chub, by Chubby, by Midnight. Midnight is by Badger, by Peter McCue. Chubby is out of Fourth Of July, a great mare by Bobby Lowe and out of Old Mary. The dam of Cherry Chub is Ruthie McCue, by King McCue, by Happy Jack Mc- Cue, by Jack McCue, by Peter McCue. King McCue is out of a Yellow Boy mare, and Yellow Boy is sired by Yellow Jacket. Ruthie McCue
is out of Hollands Dorothy, by Jacket, by Blackburn, by Yellow Jacket. Blackburn is out of the Peter McCue mare Sis. This is the kind of foundation upon which to build a great horse.
RETURNING THE BLOOD
We have seen two very good pedigrees come together to produce One Dashing Eagle. Both sides of the pedigree indicate success in the pro- duction of good racehorses. But now let’s look at how this all comes together in a pedigree pattern called “returning the blood of the sire’s dam to produce the foal.”
One Dashing Eagle is sired by Mr Jess Perry, who has proven to be a great cross on the blood of Dash For Cash. We see that blood in One Famous Lady, as she is out of the Allred Brothers mare One Slick Cookie, by Dash For Cash. The mating of One Sweet Dash with One Famous Eagle brings the blood of Dash For Cash through First Down Dash back onto the Dash For Cash blood in One Famous Lady. This gives the pedi- gree a 4x3 breeding pattern to Dash For Cash.
We can carry this one step further as we have the nick of Dash For Cash on *Beduino on both sides of the pedigree. Now we are returning the blood of Dash For Cash and *Beduino in One Sweet Dash back on the blood of *Beduino and Dash For Cash found in One Famous Lady.
There are several reasons why we like to
see this kind of mating. First, this is a form of linebreeding to a common ancestors or ances- tors. Our goal with linebreeding is to keep a high relationship to one special individual or, in this case, we want to keep a high relation- ship to a good nick—the Dash For Cash nick with *Beduino. This also increases the influence of the sire’s dam on the foal produced. We are linebreeding to a common ancestor through the

sire’s dam and the mare he is being bred to. This increases the genetic influence of the sire’s dam on the production of the foal.
This breeding pattern also gives us the op- portunity to sexually balance the bloodlines we are linebreeding to. There are genes linked to the sexual chromosomes, and this breeding pat- tern allows us to move those sex linked genes on to the next generation by using horses that rep- resent both sexes of the common ancestor(s). In this case we are linebreeding to Dash For Cash through a son and daughter and linebreeding to *Beduino through a son and daughter.
Another example of this cross comes with Joy Roses Eagle SA, who finished third behind One Dashing Eagle in the Ed Burke Million Fu- turity. Joy Roses Eagle SA is out of Gather The Roses, by Mr Eye Opener, by Dash For Cash and out of Bedawee, by *Beduino. The dam of Gather The Roses is Beduinos Sweet Rose, by First Down Dash and out of Sweet Beduino.
Thus we have a filly that shows returning the blood of Dash For Cash and *Beduino through both sides of her mother’s pedigree back on the blood of her sire’s mother. We also see the Allred Brothers influence again through the tail female line of Joy Roses Eagle SA, as Beduinos Sweet Rose is a full sister to One Sweet Dash.
Jose de La Torre, co-owner and trainer of One Dashing Eagle, may have said it best immediately after the All American Futurity when he told TVG’s Mike Joyce how significant the Allred Brothers have been to him and his family and how thankful he was to have this great horse that came from these great breeders. The De La Torres raced the other million-dollar race winning son of One Famous Lady— One Sweet Jess—as well.
While the Allred Brothers have passed into history, horses like One Dashing Eagle will con- tinue to insure that their name lives forever as they go down in history as great breeders—All American Futurity breeders.
