LAFISHINGONABUGSMOON

This runner, whose name is long and a mouth-full, is already famous in the Mexican racing circuit for his extraordinary achievements during the current season. To make things easier, many refer to him as “Lafishin” or “El 20” (for the control number of the horse’s mare in the ranch, and a number that also coincides with the number of letters in its name). Also, deservedly, he is called “The Record Breaker,” which was confirmed on this occasion once again.
The grey gelding had a presence and outstanding performance in the VII Quarter Horse Breeders’ Cup, as part of a group of seven individuals three years or older born in Mexico, and to be tested at 350 yards in this stakes dedicated to breeder Salvador Oñate, and with a prize of $189,000 pesos (approx. US $9,640) and in which he was the fan’s favorite, closing with odds of 0.15.
The race developed smoothly on the track from start to finish and, although horses and riders did their best, the big grey horse with
a yellow mask stood out at the front hur-
ried by rider Yair Daniel Báez with spaced touches from his whip from the left side. Lafishingonabugsmoon reached the goal first in a brief :16.79 for a 103 speed index, 4
1/4-lengths in front of the filly Power Heart. With this result, he seized a record time at 350 yards, which he had already established on June 30, but was overcome 33 minutes later by the 2-year-old filly Maybellina.
This result makes Nofishinonafullmoon’s son, who is out of A Special Lady Bug (for My Mr Special Bug), a holder of three local speed records: at 300, 350 and 440 yards, achieved in three months, a feat never before seen
at the Hipodromo de Las Americas.
The awards for the
victory were received by
Ramiro González Ozuna,
breeder and owner of
Cuadra Los Gavilanes, accompanied by trainer Rubén Romo García, Yair Daniel Báez Soto, family and members of the team that condi- tion the speedy runners of this owner. The AMCCCCM was represented by its President, Antonio Lobeto Tamez.
In this way, Lafishingonabugsmoon obtained his sixth consecutive victory in the
current season, which includes the stakes race reported here, as well as the Javier Rosique Palavicini, Anselmo Aguilar Payán and the Bank Of America Mexico Championship Challenge, which add to the several more obtained in his
previous five years of activity
at the track, forging a record of 12-10-3 from 34 starts, as well as earnings of $2,168,618 pesos.
The filly Power Heart (Four Six Power-Break Your Heart) arrived in second place under the command of Rogelio Sáenz. She was bred by Cuadra La Presita and is owned by Cuadra Alzarza. She was saddled by Fernando Figueroa Romero.
In third place came the filly RD Native (Native Cartel-Red Gucci Shoes) with her rider
Heriberto Camacho, from the breeding of Salvador Oñate Ascensio and owned by Cuadra Las Palmas, where Victor Hugo Ruiz Carapia trains her.
Also having finished: Takin Six Glory (Glory Six–Takin Care), Perfumado (Rabbits Rainbow–Lady Blue Angel), Gallo Malvado (Just An Old Sayin–Separate Ticket) and Cheeta Steal (Cheetah Woods–Feet Down Six).
