Hartley bought Cartel Jess Rockin for $18,000 in utero at the 2017 Heritage Place Winter Mixed Sale.
“I bought her because her mother ran in the Champion of Champions,” said Hartley. “It turned out okay. Steve Burns actually bought her for me back there. He brought her back
to his ranch and foaled her there. John Firth raised her and broke her.”
Levings Racing LLC bred Cartel Jess Rockin in partnership with Reed Land & Cattle and consigned her to the Heritage Place sale. Because she was foaled at Burns Ranch in Menifee, California, Cartel Jess Rockin in a California-bred.
Cartel Jess Rockin is out of the Feature Mr Jess mare Feature Jess Rockin, a three-time stakes winner, including the 2010 AQHA Challenge Championship-G1. The mare also set two New
Track Records, both at the Fair Grounds for 440-yards. Feature Jess Rockin qualified to
the Champion of Champions in 2010, but ran unplaced. The mare has produced 100% money earners and five winners from six starters.
Carlos Huerta rode Cattail Cove (Favorite Cartel-Katie Katella) to second for trainer Juan Aleman and owner Ralph Link Newcomb. Cattail Cove previously finished
third in the 2019 Governor’s Cup Futurity-RG2.
Jose Flores trains third-place Flokie (Favorite Cartel-Lady Nayen) and owns the gelding with J. Francisco Diaz. Jairo Rangel rode Flokie, who has won four of six starts, including the 2019 Ed Burke Million Futurity-G1.
