$2 Million Futurity and the 2019 Champion of Champions have been difficult for He Looks Hot. He has undergone three colic surgeries, not only surviving them but returning to peak racing form.
“With him, you have to watch everything he eats,” said Willoughby. “But this horse loves to train. He loves being a racehorse. Vinnie takes him out to the track, and he spends 10-15 minutes out there just looking around. He loves to see what’s going on.”
He Looks Hot has now earned $1,618,055. He has won eight stakes, including the 2017 and 2019 Spencer L. Childers California Breeders Championship Handicap-RG1, named for the late top breeder and a good friend to Allred, as well as the Vessels Maturity-G1 and Robert L. Boniface Los Alamitos Invitational Championship-G1.
“I wish my mentor Spencer Childers could be here right now,” said Allred.
Allred bred He Looks Hot in California out of multiple stakes winner and Broodmare of the Year Look Her Over.
“I collect female families, and his mother is the progenitor of a lot of good horses,” stated Allred.
Look Her Over has produced 15 winners from 17 starters, including additional stakes
winners Once Over, Take A Look, and Could Be Hotter, and four stakes-placed runners. Look Her Over is a half-sister to Champions Hawkish and Hawkinson as well as to stakes winners Pride Of Katella, Rare Walker, and Mister Katella.
Kelly Perez’s homebred Mi Amor Secreto (The Louisiana Cartel-Streakin In Secret) finished second. Jose Alvarez rode the geld- ing for trainer Marcos Carrizales.
Mi Amor Secreto won the 2018 Ruidoso Derby Challenge and 2019 Downs at Albuquerque Championship.
Hotstepper (One Famous Eagle-Pandorum), the Champion Three Year Old and Champion Three-Year-Old Gelding of 2018, finished third under jockey Ramon Sanchez. Paul Jones trains the gelding for owner Monica Williams. Hotstepper’s stakes wins include the 2018 All American Derby-G1.
Completing the field were BH Lisas
Boy (Mighty Invictus-Apollo Snowbound),
As And Js (Apollitical Jess-Adolph Tres Knockout), Flash And Roll (First Moonflash- Stylish Jess BR), Zoomin For Spuds (Zoomin For Bux-A Perfect Cocktail), Jesstacartel (One Sweet Jess-Stolmeacartel), and Tequila Sangria (Favorite Cartel-Ynot Bar). Katies Easy Moves was scratched.
