  Honoring Our Veterans Night at Los Alamitos
Los Alamitos hosted its inaugural Honoring Our Veterans Night at the Races on Nov. 9. The event consisted of a patriotic opening ceremony, military vehicle and equipment displays, live music and free activities. Twenty veterans and military members from the Orange County community were honored in the winner’s circle throughout the night. “It was an honor for all us at Los Alamitos Race Course to host veterans and military members from our community and thank them for their service to our country,” said Los Alamitos marketing director Orland Gutierrez.
Lopez Wins First Race At Los Al
Jockey Henry Reynoso Lopez won his first ever race at Los Alamitos on Nov. 10. The 18-year-old high school student earned a head victory aboard Gravity Rumors (Red Hot Rhythm-Why Czech Rumors, Corona Czech) in a 110-yard claiming race. This marked only the third ride for Lopez, who made his first out on Oct. 19 aboard the same horse.
Record Breaking Year For Mustang Heritage Foundation
The Mustang Heritage Foundation (MHF), in partnership with the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Wild Horse and Burro Program, placed
an impressive 2,623 wild horses and burros into homes through sales and adoption, recording a 34% increase over the 2017-2018 fiscal year. The BLM recently granted additional funding to MHF, with the majority of the funding to be allocated to the MHF Trainer Incentive Program (TIP), which is responsible for 93% of animal placements. South Dakota Horse Racing May Return in 2020
The South Dakota Commission on Gaming approved a request to run horse races on Oct. 3-Oct. 4, 2020, according to Fort Pierre track manager Shane Kramme. The races will run one weekend and will only be held in Fort Pierre. Kramme states that the two days of racing will offer over $110,000 in purse money for both QH and TB runners.
