Jesse Lane won his last three in a row, includ- ing his Oct. 14 trial coming into the $202,547 New Mexico Classic Derby at Zia Park.
In the finals Jesse Lane took a bump at the start, but jockey Alonso Rivera kept him straight. With their eyes on the prize, the duo never lost heart. Overcoming a deficit, they crossed the line a head in front.
The clock stopped at :21.734 to earn a 96 speed index. The gelding snagged the first place check worth $97,224 for owner/breeder MJ Farms and trainer James Padgett II, boosting his total lifetime earnings to $297,496, The gelding won the All American Juvenile Stakes last year and was
also a runner-up in the Zia Futurity-RG1.

When asked about the future, the trainer added, “We are going back off on his training and let him coast a while. We will look for a few stakes races that fit him.”
Hollywoodcrown (Heza Motor Scooter- Hollywood Gone TB) and Porfirio Cano were second for owner/trainer Fred Danley.
Ginuwine Buzz (Genuine Strawfly- Reacorona) was third under Jospeh Belloc Jr. for owner Pedro Carrillo and trainer Beatriz Sanchez.
Rime Chimes (Sign To Be A Runaway-Rime Has A Chick), Miles Of Flash (First Moonflash- Lalia), Regard The Rose (Chicks Regard-Not Sable Shes Rose), Avallon (Big Daddy Cartel- Sandys Fame), Flashy Tres (First Moonflash- Sissys Tres Girl) and Sixmoons (First Moonflash-Stevie Six) completed the order of finish. Nolans Theory was scratched.
Jess Bein The Hero was coming off a consecu- tive five win streak with his most recent win in the July 28 Rocky Heinzig Stakes at Fair Meadows.
In a close photo, Valiant Rogue (Valiant Hero-Azoom Babe) and Alonso Rivera were third for owner Wyok Ranch LLC and trained by James Padgett II. Valiant Rogue won the Grade 2 Bob Moore Stakes on April 21 of this year.
Apolltical Chad (Apollitical Jess-Fast Prize Tracy), Katella Deli (Foose-Katie Katella), Tough To Bee (Apollitical Jess- Peppermint Seis), Believe Me Irene (Valiant Hero-Financial Leverage), Passion For Flashn (First Moonflash-Subtly Sixy), Papaws Paint (PYC Paint Your Wagon-Heavenly Trip) and Apollitical Brooke (Apollitical Jess-Runaway Brooke) completed the order of finish. Putinical and Sf Hot Pass were scratched.

“Jesse Lane is a cool
little guy,” said trainer James Padgett. “He’s one hundred percent sound.
“He was in the New Mexico State Fair Derby trials in Albuquerque and he drifted out and got dis- qualified,” Padgett continued. “Sometimes he runs all over the track, but only once in
a while. Yesterday he didn’t break as good as he can, but he came running on the end and stuck his head in front.

Major Bites scored his sixth stakes victory in the $200,000 Zia Park Championship-G1 on Dec. 2.
Under Jose Alvarez, Major Bites stepped away from the 3-post on top where they remained throughout the 440 yards.
The pair crossed the wire 1-length in front in wire-to-wire fashion in :21.783, earning a 94 speed index.
Including the first place money worth $120,000, the gelding
has now earned a total of
$672,712. Major Bites’
race record stands at 26-10(6)-5(3)-3(1), includ- ing victories in the 2017 and 2018 Namehimastreaker New Mexico Classic Championship-RG1, Moonflash Maturity at The Downs of Albuquerque on Aug. 26, Mesilla Valley Speed Handicap on March 3 and Dona Ana County
Stakes at Sunland Park on Jan. 28, the latter three races being won consecutively.
He has won six out of eight starts since Jesus Carrete took over the training for owner Israel Bordier.
Carlos Paez bred Major Bites out of 2-time winner Dyna Mo Rime. She has produced three winners from six starters, including Dyna O Mite, who finished third in the 2015 By
By JJ Stakes at Ruidoso Downs, and multiple graded stakes finalist Major Alligator. Major Bites is her
first stakes winner and top money earner.
Jess Bein The Hero (Valiant Hero-Jess Braggin) finished second under Manuel Gutierrez. Overcoming a lackluster start, he gained enough ground to cash the second place check for owner Juan F Martinez-Labastida and trainer Josue Ponce.
