Flying Cowboy 123’s winning connections include owner Paragon Farms LLC, trainer G. Blane Wood and jockey Ricky Ramirez
“Part of the process is trainer Blane Wood and Trey, who do a great job with these horses,” Ramirez told stallionesearch.com after the race.
“I talked to my wife every night about it for the last two weeks and finally decided to ride Flying Cowboy,” the jockey continued. “We were blessed to get the victory.”
Wood added to his lead atop the the AQHA earnings liast for trainers. As of
Nov. 12, his charges had won $3,382,452
in 239 total starts—45 of them victories. He’s produced the winner in three Grade 1 futurities this year: the Texas Classic, the All American, and the Rainbow.
“We’ve had an exceptionally good year,” Wood said. “It’s one of those dream years where everything really kind of fell into place. We broke lots of horses. We started with about a hundred head and had some that could run.”
Wood credited the success to having “A lot of good help and good family. A lot of our family, they work with us. Sons, brothers, wives, daughters, in-laws, it’s all a family deal and it takes every one of us.”
Wood noted that Flying Cowboy 123’s fabulous rookie campaign still may not
be over just yet, depending on the results of some scheduled X-rays after the Texas Classic Futurity.
“He pulled up really well, but we’ll
go ahead and make sure there’s nothing there that we can’t see and go from there,” Wood stated.
“It was an awesome win,” the trainer said. “It was a lot of fun. It’s been a really, really fun year and I really appreciate all of their help. I couldnt do it without them.”
Carolyn Bay bred Flying Cowboy

That group of stakes winners also includes World Champion/2-time Champion Cold Cash 123, who won nine stakes races and has career earnings over $1.4 million. Her other stakes winner is 2017 Rainbow Futurity Juvenile winner Tough Dynasty 123.
Eagles Fly Higher (One Famous Eagle- Lone Bet), a 28-1 longshot who won the Remington Park Juvenile in April, surprised in second place for Vernon Harman and Robert Moudy III. All American Juvenile, finished third for owner/trainer Dean Frey. Cody Jensen was in the irons. Danjer won his Texas Classic Futurity trial, which was part of a 4-race win streak for the gelding.
