Alfonso Patiño Martinez-Acevez Classic
KING HOLLAND
by Luis Prieto Zamudio, translation by Eduardo Silveyra
An exciting race was held in honor of Quarter Horse horseman/breeder Don Alfonso Patiño Martinez-Aceves. Eight horses, 3 years and older, competed for a purse of $243,700 pesos ($11,948 US dollars approx.) at a distance of 300-yards over a fast track.
Favored by the fans, King Holland made good on the odds by prevailing under the direction of Mario Alberto López Marmolejo, crossing the wire 1/2-length in front of SF Top Class Heart and covering the distance in :15.43 for an 88 speed index.
Will Rush (#5) had a bad start. SF Top Class Heart (#3) showed speed for a good
part of the race and in the final strides, King Holland (#6) dominated by advancing through the center of the track under the command
of his rider. These two being the leading pair, along with Candidat Ryon Shot (#8), com- pleted the top three runners on the board.
King Holland, a four-year-old sorrel geld- ing, was bred by the honoree of this race,
Don Alfonso Patiño, at his Rancho El Cortijo located in San Juan del Río, State of Querétaro. His nephew, Alfredo Patiño and his family, were at the awards ceremony and represented the honoree and were excited to celebrate the triumph with the team of Cuadra Junior’s,
led by Orlando Álvarez, Santiago Guillermo Salinas and son.
“This horse was acquired in a claiming race for $50,000 pesos from Cuadra Victoria on July 29. Fortunately, he has
responded very well to the
training that has been given to him. He has a lot of energy and adapts better at longer distances than today’s,” said Guillermo “Junior” Salinas, who thanks all those who, with their dedicated daily work, make the results of the Cuadra possible.

SF Top Class Heart (SF Brave Heart-Hiclass Juliette) was second. The six-year-old grey is
owned by Cuadra CP and trained by Juan Miguel Cruz Galván. José Manuel Cisneros was up. Candidat Ryon Shots (Frankie Shoots-
Dremin Ryon) took third place for Cuadra Villagrán under the sup- port of jockey José Ángel
