The marketing of racehorses remains strong, in view of a participatory and influential market.
The busy 2012 racing season in Brazil started at the Jockey Club of Sorocaba, a stronghold of Brazilian Quarter Horse Racing and the only official AQHA racetrack in Brazil. The timing is very good for 2012 to be the best year of Quarter Horse racing ever in Brazil, with many investments and a large supply of good animals. New owners are starting horses and winning, which is important for their willingness to continue investing in the sport. With all the planning for this season and next, we now know that next season will be even better, as a record number of horses pre-registered for the Grand Prix 2013.
SALES
The marketing of racehorses remains strong, in view of a participatory and influential market. The first auction in 2012 was the Race Auction Vista Verde and Friends, on March 3.
Total sales were $1,582,000 with an average price of $25,408. Also sold were 20 covers (stallion breedings), for an average of $15,666. (All prices are listed in U.S. dollars.) Buyers from various states in Brazil, Paraguay and Bolivia attended the sale. The highest-seller was Miss Stone Toll ZD (SC Chiseled In Stone-Special Tolltac), which was consigned by Haras Grass, Americana, SP, and purchased by JSS Stud, Caruaru, PE.
To start the year off well, Mauro Zaborowsky, of Vista Verde Stables, paid homage at the beginning
of the auction to the men responsible for having a positive influence on everything that is happening in the Quarter Horse Racing in Brazil—Gianni Franco Samaja, Sérgio Luiz Brill Nogués, Fakri Joseph Nelson, Wellington Germano De Queiroz, Ovid Vieira Ferreira, Fernando Muniz De Souza, and Pliny De Rezende Kiehl.
On March 24, the seventh annual auction of Haras Canarim & Carrera, was held at the Jockey Club of Sorocaba. The total sales were $1,030,000, making the overall average $24,333. (Prices in Brazilian real.) Of the 42 lots sold, according to MBA Auctions, the highlight was a colt pre-entered in the Grand Prix in 2013 and 2014 Mega Barrel, Jr Car Brisco (Brisco County Jr-Antak Bryan). Consigned by Haras Carrera in Avare, SP, he brought the high- est bid of the auction, $60,000 (U.S.) from Aldimir Lima Nunes, Redemption, PR. Among the fillies that sold, Nostalgia Shalako (Tolltac Daring-Carazinho In Concert) was the highest-seller at $60,000 (U.S.),
