April 21 featured the ninth annual Speed Auction, sponsored by Haras Flower Fields
by Benny Rosset, Silver, Eric Braga, and Sao Jorge, Marcelo Jorge. The three names are well known in the U.S. market, not only for their investments in cutting-edge animal imports to Brazil, but also for having animals running and winning in the United States. The total sales
of the auction set a record for the time being in Brazil in 2012 of $2,426,000 (U.S.).
Of the 59 lots available, the overall average was $36,379 (U.S.). In addition to the horses that went through the sale ring, 55 stallion breed-
ings (covers) were sold for a total of $555,600 (U.S.). The highlight of the auction was Lot 17, The Miracle (Miracle Dean-She’s Signed). The 18-month-old colt sold for $304,000 (U.S.) from consignor Stables Silver, Bauru, SP, LM to Stables in Fair Tanquinho, BA.
The next big Brazilian auction was sched- uled to take place on May 19 at St. Angelo during the GP Megarace. The consignment of Haras Santo Angelo includes 56 horses foaled in 2010 from sires such as Gold Medal Jess and King Special Appeals.
RACES

PG Equestrian Center West—I Derby. The finals of these two Grand Prix races took place March 24-25, along with the qualifying and final GP Super Sprint. On April 21-22, the Jockey Club of Sorocaba opened the doors for the qualifying and final Brazilian Grand Prix qualifying Futurity and also the President of ABQM GP—Derby II.
The Derby prize was $70,000 (U.S.) and the winner was Windy Ease Colt (Holland Ease-Streaker Filly), marking :16.84 at 301 meters. The GP Tournament Home, who paid a total of $125,000 (U.S.) in prize money, also running a distance of 301 meters, with Insult Gold (Gold Medal Jess Bryan-Atacama SA) winning in a time of :16.85.
In the GP Super Sprint, with a purse of $100,000 (U.S.), two records were broken by the same animal within 24 hours. Running over a distance of 275 meters, Casino Car
Toll (Toll Picasso-Miss Wrangler Six) won
one of the qualifiers in :15.14, beating the old record of the distance of :15.15 set by Prime Henryetta in July 2010. In the final, Casino Car Toll clocked :15.08, lowering the time even more. Iron Maiden Dash (Dash To Chivato- All American Beauty) was the winner of the Futurity Brazillian GP, which took place on April 22. Running the distance of 365 meters, the colt clocked :19.70.
The finals of the Grand Prix of the President of ABQM—Derby II are scheduled for May 5-6, followed on May 19-20 by the GP Megarace and Santo Angelo—FARMASA (qualifying and finals). June 16 will be the qualifying races for the Future Potro, Speed King and Queen of Speed, and on June 30, the finals of the GPs Foal Future King and Queen of Speed and also the qualifying races for the GP Super Stakes.
  Brazil’s Quarter Horse racing sales have been well attended this year.
