FiRSt in cLaSS DBS
by Michael Compton
First in Class DBS required eight starts to earn his initial victory, which he accomplished last September at Will Rogers Downs. Since then,
the now 4-year-old son of First Down Dash hasn’t lost in two subsequent races and scored the first stakes victory of his career against much more accomplished rivals in the $100,000 Leo Stakes-G1 at Remington Park on March 30.
Owned by Andrew T. Smith of Ardmore, OK,
First in Class DBS spotted the field an early advantage in the 400-yard fixture. Breaking from the far outside in post No. 9, he broke out just slightly at the start. Once he leveled off for jockey Roy Baldillez, the colt lengthened stride and quickly reeled in the leaders through the lane. He gobbled up ground late and crossed the wire a neck in front of 2-1 race favorite

Stakes last year with World Champion Cold Cash 123. “The Long Knife was ahead of us but he started really moving and on the end we just went by them. He ran a super race.”
