Last year’s AQHA Champion Distance horse, All About Larry showed that champion- ship form in his first out of 2013, winning the $63,090 Red Cell Distance Challenge-G3 on
March 31 at Sunland Park.
It marked the 11th win and fifth in
stakes company for Diane Heath’s six-year- old gelding, whose victory in the Sunland Distance Challenge qualifies him to the Red Cell Distance Challenge
Championship to be contested this fall at Los Al. His prior 4 stakes victories came last year, part of a 6-1-0 record in 8 outs that produced $144,490 in prize money. All About Larry also set 870-yard track records at Prairie Meadows and Lone Star Race Park.
A John Stinebaugh trainee, All About Larry dom- inated the rest of the 8-horse field in the Sunland Distance
Challenge. He broke well from the inside rail, and he and jockey L. Salvador Martinez were part of a three-wide battle for the lead going into the turn. All About Larry drew clear in the straightaway, opening up a one-length lead as he entered the stretch and widening the gap with every subsequent stride to sport a four- length margin as he reached the wire.
The 870-yard trip took :44.122, his best- ever time at the distance, and
registered a 105 speed index. The Las Vegas Ranch-bred All About Larry collected his 4th straight win, a streak that dates back to Aug. 12. He’s registered a 98 si or greater in each of those, including 3 consecutive triple-digit indices. This race produced a $30,284 payday to improve his total earnings to $189,064 from 23 starts.
Diane Heath also owns his dam, Come Hell Or Hiwater,
a lightly-raced 1998 mare. Of the three starters she’s produced among seven offspring, two are stakes winners. A Splash Of Hell, a half-brother to All About Larry, posted two stakes victories.
Pre-race favorite DM Streakn Thru Fire (Walk Thru Fire-Sashay N Six) made a game run for second. Richard Sturdevant, Terry Wootan and Joe David Yates own the Michael Joiner trainee, who had Casey Lambert aboard. Jess A Traffic Jam (Feature Mr Jess-Traffic Ten Too) ral- lied to finish third for George and Judy Weldon, trainer Blake Rust and rider Larry Gamez.
The remaining order of finish was Stray Cat (Storm Cat TB-Your First Moon), KC Royal Flush (Sixes Royal-Willie May Dash), Hauling The Cash (Holland Ease-Take The Cash Willie), GG Streakin South (Streakin South Tong-DC Cash) and I Know Bedarina (Now I Know-Bedarina).
