as a 2-year-old last year, Chaotic Cartel encountered his share of bad racing luck. But by the end of 2012, the gelding had learned how to win, and he is now on a three-race streak. His most recent triumph came in the March 30 Buena Park Handicap at Los Alamitos.
Chaotic Cartel and jockey Cesar DeAlba broke ahead of their four rivals from post three. Agent Of Move to the inside was off a step slower and quickly caught up. Chaotic Cartel and Agent Of Move matched strides, and approaching the wire, two oth- ers closed from the outside. It turned into a four-way battle, with Chaotic Cartel holding on to win by a neck in :17.570 for the 350 yards.
“We beat them to the wire, and that’s all that matters,” said trainer Paul Jones. “Cesar said that he was tiring a little bit at the end, but he got there first.”
Chaotic Cartel won a maiden last July at Los Alamitos and didn’t win again until December, but he put together 2 allowance wins prior to the Buena Park.
John Andreini bred Chaotic Cartel in Oklahoma and campaigns him. His dam, Dinastia Toll Brz, was bred in Brazil and raced in California, where she won the 2003 Charger Bar Handicap-G1 and three other stakes. She has produced 11 winners from 15 starters, including millionaire FDD Dynasty, stakes winner Fishers Destiny, and stakes-placers First Dinastia, Brazilian Dasher, and Stormy Cartel.
Agent Of Move (Maknmoves-Shez De Agent), with Cruz Mendez aboard, and French Fury (Stoli- Streakin Jessie Gail), ridden by Gregorio Arriaga, dead-heated for second. Jose Moreno trains Agent Of Move for La Botella Racing Stable. Allowance win- ner French Fury is owned by Angel Villalobos and trained by Jaime Gomez.
BG Czech Mark (Corona Czech-Joes Tol) ran fourth, with Secretly Famous (One Famous Eagle- Secret Separation) fifth. Special Seal was scratched.

new Mexico-bred Required Fire has become a California girl. In four starts so far this year at Los Alamitos, the filly is a perfect four for four, most
recently becoming a stakes winner in the March 29 Go Josie Go Handicap.
Cruz Mendez has piloted Required Fire in all of her Los Alamitos starts. In the 350-yard Go Josie Go, she popped out of the gate on top from post two. Joy Roses Eagle SA on the rail tried to stay with her. Required Fire put that rival away and won by 1 1/4 lengths in :17.575 as the 9-5 favorite, with no one else coming close.
Mike Abraham bred and races Required Fire, and he noted that “she’s getting better and better every time.” The filly started twice in her native New Mexico at 2 in 2012. Off from July of last year until January, she broke her maiden at 300 yards in her first Los Alamitos attempt for trainer Jose Flores. She followed that with two more victories at 350 yards before the Go Josie Go.
No Tools Required, the dam of Required Fire, won 4 stakes and finished second in another during her racing career to earn $117,509. She has produced three winners in four starters, including 2010 New Mexico HBA Stakes-RG2 winner One Hot Mecanic.
Gianni Samaja’s homebred Joy Roses Eagle SA (One Famous Eagle-Gather The Roses) finished second for jockey Cesar DeAlba and trainer Paul Jones. Last year, the filly ran third in the Ed Burke Million Futurity-G1 behind future World Champion One Dashing Eagle.
Eulices Gomez rode Buy Buy (Stel Corona- Aquisitive) to third. Kolleen Ledgerwood owns Buy Buy, who is trained by Roberto Dominguez and won last year’s California Breeders Freshman Fillies Stakes.
Completing the field were Emblaze (Walk Thru Fire-Fervent), Angels Envy (Mr Jess Perry- Strawberry Dash), and Bolt Lightly (Check Him Out-Jess Racy Eyes).

Returning to the track where he logged his first stakes win, Pot Ocash defeated an accomplished field to win the $25,000 Katella Handicap on March
24 at Los Alamitos.
Owned and trained by Jose Antonio Moreno, the
six-year-old gelding improved his record to 6-3-4 in 30 lifetime outs. Two of Pot Ocash’s wins have come in stakes company, including last year’s Independence Day Handicap. Pot Ocash banked $13,750 for the Katella win, boosting his total bankroll to $68,019.
Pot Ocash was second out of the gates from the outside starting position in the eight-horse field. He broke in while emerging from the gates, but quickly recovered and was running a solid second at both the first call and going into the stretch with Fols Jesse leading. Pot Ocash caught up to his rival during the final yards, crossing the wire in front by a head.
Jockey Cruz Mendez was aboard as Pot Ocash completed the 350-yard trip in :17.406, registering
a 94 speed index. He’s one of two stakes winners
out of Corona Cash, winner of the 1997 versions of the All American Futurity-G1, Ed Burke Memorial Futurity-RG1 and Governor’s Cup Futurity-RG1
– among 11 stakes wins recorded by the 1995 mare as part of a career that included 19 total victories and more than $1.5 million in prize money. Henry Brown bred Pot Ocash out of his accomplished dam.
Fols Jesse (Jesse James Jr-Sheza Jet Dash) placed second under Joel Cruz for his owners at Mesa Valley Farms LLC and trainer Mark Skeen. Gone With A Win (Voghts Gold-Send Sallye Silver) took third for owner Carlos Eduardo Velazquez, trainer Jose De La Torre and jockey Eduardo Nicasio.
The remaining order was Chicks Boudro (Chicks Beduino-Beat Your Pants Off), Bills Last (Shazoom- Crystalinas), Jumpn Shake (Jumpn-Jess Shakem), Kas On Fly (Signed To Fly-Blazen Ofglory 01libr) and Personal Mission (Special Leader-Tantalizing Eyes).
