JC My Diamond Man won the Harris County Stakes at Sam Houston Race Park on March 29
in a fashion befitting a 4-5 favorite. It was the sixth career stakes win for Clem Nava III’s 8-year-old vener- able veteran, who has now won 17 of 48 lifetime starts.
Piloted by regular rider Ricardo Aguirre, JC My Diamond Man broke inward at the start from the 9-hole, bumping with Stone Heading West. Despite the slight contact, JC My Diamond Man assumed command and was never seriously threatened. Striding out strongly in the late stages, JC My Diamond Man powered through the wire 3 1/2-lengths clear of second-place finisher Bythedawnsearlylight, covering the 550 yards in :27.765. He earned a speed index of 95 for the strong performance.
A picture of versatility with victories at 440, 550 and 870 yards, JC My Diamond Man now has earn- ings of $176.142. Bred in Texas by James Cordell, JC My Diamond Man captured his first stakes race in 2008, winning the Sam Houston Distance Derby. He is trained by Brian Stroud. Nava acquired JC
My Diamond Man for $2,000 when the horse was
a 3-year-old. JC My Man Diamond is produced from the unraced Chicks Beduino mare Chicks a Diamond and is a half-brother to two winners.
In second was Bythedawnsearlylight (Heza Fast Dash-Todays Special-TB), ridden by Luis Vivanco for owner Velia Gutierrez and trainer Elpido Luna
Jr. Kite Flyer (Royal Quick Dash-Cymbidiam) finished third under Santos Carriales for Dark Horse Partnership and trainer Ryan Basham.
Following were Stone Heading West (SC Chiseled in Stone-Ellens Briartic-TB), Wicked Hero (Valiant Hero-Viking Amens Dash), Mr Tellmeno Lie (Mr Swearengen-Tellmeno Lie), Shake Em Special Pop (Royal Shake Em-Gotta Special Pop), Corona La Jolla (Tinys First Corona-Mary La Jolla), and Shineys Magic T (Dreams Work-Oh My Shesa Dream).

imachickenkicker didn’t have any Paint Derby engagements for a while, so owner-breeder Shirley Wheeler and trainer Luis Villafranco decided to
enter her against older horses. Her half-brother, two-time Paint World Champion Flashthechicks, was already in the March 30 Paul Harber Paint and Appaloosa Memorial Stakes, and Wheeler thought she might give the 3-year-old filly a shot.
“If she does any good in that, I’ll be thrilled to death,” said Wheeler. “Wouldn’t that be something if that little ol’ girl could show those boys up?”
That’s exactly what Imachickenkicker did. She and Flashthechicks dominated the Harber, running as a team throughout the 350 yards. The little sister, ridden by Cody Jensen, outbroke her big brother and never let him past, defeating him by a neck in :17.566.
At 2 last year, Imachickenkicker won the Pot O’ Gold Futurity and the Lone Star Speedhorse Paint and Appaloosa Futurity, and was voted two Paint championships. In her first 2013 race, she reared
at the start of her trial for the Speedhorse Graham Paint and Appaloosa Derby-G1, eliminating her chances to qualify for the final.
Imachickenkicker, Flashthechicks, and
recent Oklahoma Paint Futurity-G1 winner Imflashinthechicks are all out of Shirley and Jim Wheeler’s good Paint mare Game Chicken, the mare’s only starters thus far. Game Chicken foaled a filly by SF Royal Quick Flash earlier this year.
Flashthechicks (SF Royal Quick Flash-Game Chicken), under G. R. Carter Jr. for Villafranco, was second over Spotless Redneck (Judys Lineage-Shero). Kenny Muntz rode Spotless Redneck for owner Joni Beth Willis and her husband, trainer Eddie Lee Willis.
Runaway Argus (SF Royal Quick Flash-Giddy Up), BP Cartels Paint (Cartel Success-Baileys N Sunsets) & Junglebell (Little Jungle Jet-Jezebellway) followed, and Barney Ofield and WW Granite Treasure scratched.

agray cloudy day didn’t dampen the spirits of the hard-knocking Katillac Man. The 4-year-old gelding, who was bred by Richard Joneson and is owned by Rene Amaro and trained by Javier Contreras, showed how to grind out a win in the Streakin La Jolla Stakes at Louisiana Downs on March 23.
Quick as a cat away from the gate and cruising like a Cadillac from start to finish, he was bearing down
all the way to the wire. At first glance it seems like
the other horses were never in the hunt, but A Royal Treatment was closing strong. Katillac Man, however, was just up at the wire and finished a neck in front, covering the 400-yards in :19.675 for a 104 speed index.
The son of Country Chicks Man is out of 3-time winner Kitty Kat Dash, who was a finalist in the Grade 3 Speedhorse Gold & Silver Cup Derby. Katillac Man is one of his dam’s two stakes winners, and her top money earner. The $12,000 winner’s share from the Streakin La Jolla takes Katillac Man’s career earnings to $168,356, with a race record of 6(3)-3(2)-2 from 14 starts. He won the Iowa Double Gold Futurity-G3 and the Mr Master Bug Handicap, and was second in the Black Gold Futurity Championship-RG3 and Jack Brooks Stakes-RG3.
In second was A Royal Treatment (Corona Caliente-Intent TB), owned by Rosario Casarez, trained by Javier Contreras, and ridden by Jarrod Deschamp. In third was Sparrow Contender (Contend- Taint Special) owned by Israel Soliz, Jr., trained by Fructuoso Huitron and ridded by Santos Carrizales.
The remaining order was King Of The Bunnys (King Of The Mall-Ms High Flyin Bunny), Martini Mountain (Panther Mountain-Glitz Gator), Jessapatriot (Game Patriot-Summer La Jolla), Feature My News (Feature Mr Jess-Goodnews Montana) and Eyesa Feature (Eyesa Special-Feature Macy). Bertha Venation (Corona Caliente-Dash To Glory) stumbled and lost her rider at the gate.
