Alberto Bailleres Classic: Selecta Auction Futurity Consolation
REY DE REYES
by Luis Prieto Zamudio, translation by Eduardo Silveyra
Horses who ran the 11 to 20 fastest times from the Selecta Auction
Futurity trial races on Sept.
2-3 were eligible to run in the $357,025 pesos (approx. $19,996 US) Consolation.
Odds on favorites were the grey colt Ze Dancer Arandas (2.60) and the sorrel filly Divina Jess (3.10), who after performances in Garañones Futurity, had sufficient merits to compete with each other. In that order, they made the best times for the consolation race on Sept. 3. Rey De Reyes qualified in trial 2, registering the third best time of :17.614.
At the start, Comopower
(#6) drifted out and hit Rabbits Last Dash (#7), who in turn hit Divina Jess (#8), leaving the three behind. To his right, Ze Dancer Arandas (#9) and Rey De Reyes (#10) escaped to the finish line along with One Flower
(#5). Rey De Reyes reached the wire first by 1-length on already
difficult track conditions with a time of :17.24, earning a 98 speed index.
Comopower was disqualified from from seventh to ninth place.

pesos (approx. $9,998 US) prize. Luis Miguel Albores Gleason bred Rey De Reyes and sold him in the 2016 Select Yearling Auction (Lot 14) for $101,000 pesos (approx. $5,503 US).
