Twelve Mexican bred three years and older registered for the $172,400 pesos (approxi- mately $9,656 US) Salvador Onate Classico. Previously, the 350-yard race had runners with outstanding records: RD Native, One Sweet Ferrari, Ferdy Ruby, Game Sambaso, among others. And now Lafishingonabugsmoon.
RD Native (#4) and Ferdy Ruby (#6) boxed in One Sweet Ferrari (#5) after the start. The ending result began to be defined quickly
when the grey gelding Lafishingonabugsmoon (#9) broke away from the group and firmly assumed the lead well supported by rider
José Ángel Ambrosio Medina. RD Native advanced down the center of the track, but soon surrendered to Lafishingonabugsmoon. The red bay Patas Blancas Dancer (#12) rushed on the outside and reached second just behind Lafishingonabugsmoon, leaving RD Native in third. Lafishingonabugsmoon crossed the wire first in :17.26 and earned a 97 speed index.
After a stewards review, RD Native was disqualified to fourth place and Ferdy Ruby from fourth to fifth. Third place was awarded to the sorrel One Sweet Ferrari.
