REMEMBERING LEO
Joe Reed II, the sire of Leo
Bud Warren, who ran a dried milk plant and a cow operation in Perry, Oklahoma, in the late 1930’s and early 1940’s developed
a passion for “short horse” racing or racing of horses that were best at 200 to 350 yards. He went all out starting a breeding program. His first stallion was a son of King P-234 named Jess Hankins and then he found Leo. The purchase of Leo marked the beginning of a great partnership that put both Warren and Leo in the AQHA Hall of Fame. The journey Leo took to get to Bud Warren is a story filled with hardships that would have stopped many horses.
J.W. House of Cameron, Texas, was the breeder of Leo, and he was foaled in 1940. House owned a stallion named Joe Reed
