Dillingham Handicap
CHOCOLATITO

The night after Dr. Ed Allred went over $20 mil- lion in career earnings, his gelding Chocolatito won in his first stakes attempt. Chocolatito captured the $25,000 Dillingham Handicap at Los Alamitos on May 18 with Vinnie Bednar aboard.
Chocolatito broke second from the 6-gate, but quickly took the lead in the 400-yard Dillingham. He crossed the wire 1 1/2-lengths in front as the 6-5 favorite, completing the distance in :19.559.
Scott Willoughby trains Chocolatito, who won one of three races in 2018. After a horse acted up in the gates next to Chocolatito in the trials for the Golden State Million Futurity-G1, Willoughby gave him some time off because, “He came back a little sore,” the trainer said. Chocolatito is now two-for-two this year.
Dr. Steve Burns bred Chocolatito in California and sold him to Allred for $50,000 at the 2017 Los Alamitos Equine Sale. Chocolatito is out of Burns’ homebred graded stakes-winning Enjoy The Walk. The mare has also produced stakes winner Eagles Soar.
Jose Nicasio piloted Dexxter (Corona Cartel-Tres Of Linda) to second for owner Howard Nichols and trainer Jaime Gomez. The gelding has won four races and last year qualified to the Los Alamitos
$2 Million Futurity-G1 and Ed Burke Million Futurity-G1.
Cavuto (Foose-Sizzling PJ) finished third under jockey Erasmo Gasca for owner Pedro Rangel
and trainer Jesus Nunez. The colt has won twice, finished second three times, and finished third five times in 13 starts.
Completing the field were Tac Me Up (Kiddy Up-Tacatrina), Callender (Kiddy Up-Pie Maid), Bail Czech (Corona Czech-Letty Bail Regis Out), Bos Time Machine (Bodacious Dash-One Prompt Chick), Majestic Mr Perry (Mr Jess Perry-Personal Glory) and Cava Yee Tah (Sports Cartel-Spanish Sola Mark).
