                                The Prize Classic
MAYBELLINA
by Luis Prieto Zamudio, translation by Eduardo Silveyra
This is the first classic of the season reserved for two-year-old colts and fillies, the trials of which were held on April 13 with the participation of 17 horses, all bred in the United States. Three weeks later, the finals were held with eight of the ten final- ists due to the scratching of Night Terror and Dancing Perry Doll.
The test was at 300 yards with a prize of $595,900 pesos (approx. to $31,169 U.S.).
In the trials, the superiority of the grey filly Maybellina was notable as she won her qualifying race in :14.99, the best time among the participants. And as if that were not enough, her stablemate Perryssilksilhouette also won her heat in :15.093, the next best after Maybellina.
Thus, the entry of these two fil-
lies received wide support in the betting windows, which they proved on the track, especially Maybellina, who under the com- mand of Mario Alberto López Marmolejo had no mercy on her rivals and was credited with the win by 3-lengths in front of Más Buena, who took the lead in the first yards,
but could not resist the onslaught of the grey filly, who immediately surpassed her and exhausted the distance in a brief :14.98 (SI 101), improving by one hundredth the time of her previous departure.
The filly is owned by Rancho R-H, where she is trained by José Alfredo Rivera Hernández. She was raised by Duke Racing LLC and was consigned to the Heritage Place Yearling Sale where she was acquired for $36,000 by veterinarian Rachuán Suárez Kuri, who brought her to Mexico and sold her to her current owners.
The daughter of PYC

the mare Eye Popping by Mr Eye Opener displayed an excellent performance in her first two outings at the Hipódromo de las Américas and will be a strong contender during the cur- rent season. For these successes, her earnings account totals just over $340,000 pesos.
Mas Buena, property of Cuadra El Cuartel and trained by José Luis Tavizón Barraza, placed in second under the direction of Israel Domínguez Morales. She is the daughter
of Stel Corona and out of the mare Plenty Good, by Separatist.
In third place closed the colt Tempting Dude with Heriberto Camacho at the helm. He is owned by Rancho El Paraíso and was saddled by trainer Juan José Razo. He is the son of Tempting Dash and out of Tinalicious, by Shazoom.
Mea Dominator (Dominyun-Duck Mea Running) was fourth and
was followed by Cartel Jumpn Chick (Jumpn Chick-Cash Cartel), Perryssilksilhouette (Mr Jess Perry-Sixy Silhouette), Thats A Given (Apollitical Jess-Teller Sheza Doll) and The Royal Ram (Royal Quick Dash- Vivia Patrica).
