                                Mexico Futurity Consolation
CORONA SOLA
by Luis Prieto Zamudio, translation by Eduardo Silveyra
The race for the consolation prize of the Mexico Futurity was contested among eight of the ten qualifying individuals, due to the scratching of AS Perla Negra and BR Jess Runner. The prize in dispute was $341,837 pesos (approx. $17,745 U.S.), to be distributed from first to fifth place, a figure that corre- sponds to 6% of the total purse raised for the Mexico Futurity.
It was a clean race from start to finish, free of any bumps or interference, so there was no doubt that the winner, Corona Sola, was the best, especially considering that she covered the 250 yards in :12.88, corresponding to a 104 speed index.
It was rider Leonardo Vidaña who was responsible for leading the winner on the track, a sorrel filly belonging to Rancho El Suspiro, prepared by Guadalupe García “Lupillo” and saddled for this event by trainer Gonzalo Bastida Pacheco.
The daughter of Senior Solo out of Corona Dot Com by Corona Cartel was consigned to the 2018 Select Yearling Auction, where she was quoted at $300,000 pesos (approx. U.S. $15,380) when presented in the ring.
She came to this competition after par- ticipating in the trials, where she came in second place behind Mexico Futurity quali- fier Jabulani Dash. Corona Sola’s time was :13.24, being the seventh best of the ten that passed to the consolation, in which Leonardo Vidaña also rode her.
In this way, she earns her “maiden” race, which gave her dividends of $170,918 pesos (approx. $8,872 U.S.).
The awarding of rec- ognitions by the Mexican Association of Quarter Horse Breeders and Horsemen AC was presided over by Mr. Antonio Lobeto Tamez, and was received
by Juan Baldovinos and
son, on the part of Rancho
El Suspiro, as well as Dr.
Anselmo Aguilar Payán, breeder of the win- ner and owner of Cuadra La Presita.
In second place was Sola Latina (Senior Solo-Shes A Toll), who was ridden by Mario Alberto López Marmolejo. She belongs to
Cuadra Santa Cruz and was saddled by trainer Víctor Jarillo Sánchez.
In third place arrived One Gavilán (Bullish One-Platinum Cash) under the encouragement of the experienced rider José Ángel Ambrosio Medina. Like Sola Latina, he belongs to Cuadra
Santa Cruz and was saddled by Víctor Jarillo Sánchez.
The second and third place finish in the Mexico Futurity Consolation was no doubt a favorable bal- ance for the owner, which in addition to the results described above, was also credited with first place in the Mexico Futurity with One Zulu Dragon.
Isa Fearless Boy (Fearless Fritz-Isa Party Girl), Succy C First (First Dinastia-Feature
Miss Susie), Proud One Eyed (Fearless Fritz- Proud Corrina), Aquiles Native GC (Native Jewel DH-Ticket To Anywhere) and Felina Horse (Sea Horse Corona-Feminine Feline) completed the order of finish.
