Ed Allred Becomes First Owner To Reach 100 QH Stakes Wins
All-time leading breeder and owner Dr.
Ed Allred reached another milestone when
he became the first owner to reach 100 career Quarter Horse stakes victories. The AQHA
Hall of Fame member reached the mark when Well Good (shown above) won the Kaweah Bar Handicap-G3 at Los Alamitos on May 4. Trained by Scott Willoughby and ridden by Vinnie Bednar, Well Good won the $35,000 event by 3/4-lengths. On Feb. 8, Allred became the first owner to reach 1,500 career Quarter Horse wins, and he is on the verge of becoming the first owner to reach the $20 million mark in earnings.
Andreini Scholarship Recipients
The first John Andreini Scholarship recipients were announced on May 3. From
27 applicants, six students were selected by
the All American Ruidoso Downs Foundation (AARDF) Board of Directors to receive $1,000 each. The recipients are, from left to right, Wyatt Dillon Stinebaugh (Texas), Tylo Kim Farrar (Texas), Cheyann Lynn Jaramillo (New Mexico), Karina Alvarez (New Mexico), and, not pictured, Darin Andrew Chavers (Colorado) and Colten Gavin O’Dell (California).
Quarter Horse Stakes Races In Brazil
The Jockey Club de Sorocaba in Sao Paulo, Brazil, on June 1 held the R$ 200,000 Sorocaba Futurity finals. Tyrino Kisser (Gold Medal Jess-The Goodbye Kisser, First Down Dash)
and jockey A. Arteman scored the victory for owner Antonio Bruno Da Costa and trainer M. Artemam. On the same day, four trials were held for the R$ 450,000 Grande Premio Megarace. The winners of each trial will move to the June 15 finals and include Terremoto Da Shalako (Granite Lake-Karisma Bac, Splash Bac), Baby Fantastic (Fantastic Corona Jr-Hustled, Feature Mr Jess), Granite Toll Lake (Granite Lake-Summer Six, Tres Seis) and Dijon Chick MRL (Gold Medal Jess-Hempen Chick, Chicks Beduino).

Los Alamitos Hosts First Responder Night
Los Alamitos Race Course hosted its inaugural Salute to First Responders on June 8. The event featured family friendly fun and interactive events and displays. First Responders were recognized in the winner’s circle throughout the night. The event offered something for everyone. “Every day there are brave men and women who put their lives on the line to protect our communities and keep us safe,” said Orlando Gutierrez, marketing director of Los Alamitos Race Course. “We are pleased to create this event to salute their efforts and look forward to a festive event they can enjoy with their families along with the community they serve.”
Ruidoso Renovations
Ruidoso Downs has been in the process
of making major upgrades and renovations to the facility. This season, those improvements include a new 50’ state-of-the-art sign and message board at the highway entrance featur- ing two 8’x12’ full color screens, as well as a new prayer garden under the cross on the hill behind the track backside by the new chapel.
