                                                   Top Deck.
Top Deck’s initial success should have caught on with the Quarter Horse breeder, but it didn’t. Top Deck’s slow start has been attributed to his south Texas location and a lack of quarter type conformation. It wasn’t until his son, Go Man Go, won three World Championships and the move to Oklahoma, that Top Deck was finally able to secure his place in Quarter Horse history.
Top Deck left behind thousands of descendants and the premier sire line in the quarter running horse industry. This sire line is represented by such eminent sires as Easy Jet, Go Man Go, Top Moon, and Rebel Cause. Top Deck’s sire line is a major contribution to the quarter running horse industry that will continue for years to come.
Casady Casanova, a leading freshman sire in 1984, provides us with the opportunity to exam- ine the phenomenon of linebreeding to Top Deck. Casady Casanova is sired by Top Moon,
a grandson of Top Deck and out of Twayna by Rebel Cause, a son of Top Deck. This makes Casady Casanova 3x3 linebred to Top Deck.
Casady Casanova was a 1979 stakes winner as a 2-year-old in the Los Ninos Handicap, the Juvenile Invitational Handicap and the Cypress Handicap. His race career was cut short when he sustained a hoof injury. The injury consisted of a ripped or torn quarter on the hoof. After a year’s layoff, he was put back in training but injured the other front hoof in the same manner. This event led to Casady Casanova’s retirement from racing and his syndication for stud duty at Frank Merrill’s Windward Stud. He retired with six wins in twelve starts and $157,173 in earning for owner and breeder Leo Winters.
Casady Casanova’s linebreeding to Top Deck seems only natural when you examine Top Deck’s pedigree. Top Deck is linebred to the Domino stallion Peter Pan twice, the Ben Brush stallion Broomstick four times, and to the legendary Man O’ War twice. These three stallions all appear in
Twayna.
