  Jaguar Rocket stakes
Wh Johnnie Boy ReD
by John Moorehouse
By covering the 300 yards in :15.685, WH Johnnie Boy Red recorded the quickest qualifying time of the would-be finalists in
the Jaguar Rocket Stakes. Julia Rae Martin’s young gelding had to be even quicker to prevail in the $130,700 stakes for Indiana- breds on June 30 at Indiana Downs. The top qualifier made a late move to win the lucrative event by a neck.
WH Johnnie Boy Red logged his third win in four total starts, with all three victories coming in succes- sive outs. Martin collected
a $71,885 payday for her gelding’s triumph, improving the total bankroll of WH Johnnie Boy Red to $86,173.
Competing in his first-ever stakes event, WH Johnnie Boy Red looked like he was tabbed for a finish in the middle of the pack. He
broke from the No. 8 hole and had to gain some ground during the first portion of the race. However, jockey Victor Olivo had WH Johnnie Boy Red running second going into the stretch, and got the gelding to the wire first in a bold move, knifing the horse between two competitors in the final few yards to beat Sixy Lil Garter to the finish line.
A Paul Martin trainee, WH Johnnie Boy Red topped his field-best
qualifying effort, completing the race in :15.630.
Ken and Reba George bred both WH Johnnie Boy Red and his dam, Fast Mans Dash, a 2001 mare owned
by White Horse Ranch LLC. Fast Mans Dash made only one start as a racer before becoming a broodmare, producing four competitors among six total offspring. Three of those four are
winners and WH Johnnie Boy Red is the first stakes winner.
Sixy Lil Garter (Dean Miracle-Spurs N Garters) held on to take second place for owner/trainer Randy Smith. Ruben Serna was aboard. Kitticelli (Genuine Botticelli-Kittens Line), a 10-1 underdog, finished well clear
in third for owner Jane Marie Arendsen after leading late in the race. The Dicky Benton trainee was ridden by Julie Veltman.
The remaining order of finish was Tinys
First Pepsi (Tinys First Corona-Chics Pepsi), the second-fastest qualifier, followed by Zoom N 324 (Zoomin For Bux-Miss Silk N Such), Wrangling For Money (First Wrangler-First Sweet Money), Its Just Max (Special Elan-Air Dashin Annie), Jess A James (Ivory James-Jess Alive Bully), Flys No Mystery (Fly Jess Fly-Mystery Stride) and Hoosier Rabbit (Fly Jess Fly-Babys Rabbitt).

 Blue River Derby
ChilleD six PaCK
by John Moorehouse
Chilled Six Pack iced Princess Royal Blew in a photo finish to claim victory in the $113,800 Blue River Derby held June 30 at
Indiana Downs. In the process, Raymond
and Vickie Duke’s homebred gelding notched his fourth win in eight starts and second in stakes company. Chilled Six Pack also claimed victory in last year’s running of the Gordon Mobley Futurity at Hoosier Park.
That futurity also marked Chilled Six Pack’s most recent victory prior to the Blue River Derby trials, where he logged the top qualifying time. In between, the gelding went four outs without a win, including a distant 10th-place finish in the Born Runner Stakes.
Doubling his stakes win total did not come easy. Although Chilled Six Pack led at every call of the 350-yard
competition, after breaking on top from the No. 6 gate, Princess Royal Blew made a furi- ous rally late and nearly caught Chilled Six Pack at the wire. As it is, the filly’s surge neces- sitated a photo finish before Chilled Six Pack was declared the winner by a nose.
The pre-race favorite, Chilled Six Pack fin- ished the event in :18.010, posting an 89 speed index. That’s a bit off the pace from the :17.,874
time he tallied in the trials. John McCreary trains
Chilled Six Pack and jockey Shanley Jackson was aboard.
The Dukes bred Chilled Six Pack out of Six Packin Robin, a 2002 mare owned by Duke Racing LLC. Stakes- placed with a runner-up finish in the 2005 QHRA of Indiana Derby at Hoosier Park, Six Packin Robin posted two wins in 22 starts before becoming
a broodmare. Four of her five
foals have made starts, but Chilled Six Pack is the solitary stakes winner in that quartet.
Coronet Farm home-bred Princess Royal Blew (Royal Blue Chew Chew-Kittens Line), who finished a close second. Trained by Carol Rettele, the filly had Troy Crissup in the irons. Will You Perry Me beat U B Crawlin by a neck to claim third place for owner Eric Doctor. Ron Raper trains Will You Perry Me (Dashing Val-Streakin Keep Sake), and Oscar Delgado drew the riding assignment.
U B Crawlin (The Crawfish-Queen Of The Saga), Dezenzo (Ivory James-Hooked On Laveaux), Successful Dash (Cartel Success-Rita Anns Dash), Swiper (Leaving Memories-Air Flyin Rose), Chilled Patrona (Chilled Corona- Barbi Quick Dash) and Six Chilled Coronas (Chilled Corona-Six Fols Dash) completed the field. Valiant Leader was scratched.
