Paint barrel horses cash in
Speedin For Cash lived up to her name at the Diamonds & Dirt Barrel Horse Classic, which took place March 7–13 at the Brazos County Expo Complex in Bryan, Texas, and carried owner Carol Waters of Red Rock, Oklahoma, to a third-place finish in the futu- rity, earning a check for more than $10,000.
“My first-go was our fastest time—I was fifth in the first-go. She just gave me a nice run and turned all three barrels tight and fast. The second-go was just a little bit slower, so I was farther down,” Carol said. “In the finals, she gave me a nice run. It was a teeny bit slower, but I couldn’t say there was anything wrong with it.”
Speedin For Cash is a 2012 sorrel tobiano mare by Got Caught Speedin (QH) and
out of Cash Sign. The mare made her debut at the Barrel Futurities of America World Championship in December; since then, she and Carol have hit the road and won more than $22,000 since March 15, thanks in part to their enrollment in the Ram Paint Barrel Racing Incentive Program. Nicole was thrilled with her finish at the Georgia National, given the barrel racer’s tumultuous history at the event.
“I went in there for vengeance because the last few years I’ve hit barrels. My goal was just to finally get around all three and just make the
