“He comes out of the gate so strongly that sometimes he loses control. That’s really hurt us in the past. And of course, we worried this time,” said trainer J.B. Montgomery of Bugs Alive In 75.
In 75 wins the 1975 All American Futurity” of the October 1975 issue of The American Quarter Horse Journal, “He comes out of the gate so strongly that sometimes he loses control. That’s really hurt us in the past. And of course, we worried this time...”
Montgomery had worked with his horse
in the starting gate and had looked at a variety
of shoes to use to help the horse keep control. But when the gates opened, none of the footing problems appeared and Bugs Alive In 75 went to the front and won the race by a length and a half. He went off at odds of 3 to 1 and won in a time of 21.98 seconds. Bugs Alive In 75 had fulfilled his destiny by winning the All American Futurity.
Chick Called Sue was second and Rocket’s Magic third. Rocket’s Magic was the odds on favorite to win when he entered the starting gate. The remaining order of finish was Go Fantasia, Mr Breakthrough, Bobby’s Angel, He Flys, Billy Billy Bayou and Watch A Native. Chick’s Deck had qualified for the finals, but

was scratched when he had sustained an injury after he finished his trial for the All American.
Bugs Alive In 75 would go back to Sunland Park and win the Sunland Park Fall Futurity, completing his season. He would win 11 of 15 starts with two seconds and one third. He would be named the 1975 AQHA Racing Champion Two Year Old and the 1975 AQHA Racing Champion Stallion. He came back at three to race winning only two of his starts and no stakes wins. He would win the Rainbow Derby Consolation.

A great calling for Bugs Alive In 75 is his role in the barrel racing industry. He has become
an all-time leading broodmare sire of barrel racing horses - a list he led for many years. His
daughters have brought him to the forefront of the barrel racing industry. His daughters include Ms Wahini Bug, the dam of horses that have won over $500,000.
The 1975 crop of two year olds would prove to be an influential set of horses. Bugs Alive In 75, Dash For Cash, Rocket’s Magic and Chick’s Deck would become important sires.
Dash For Cash would outshine all of them as he became the all-time leading sire of money winners and is still fourth on this list with earnings of nearly $40 million. Chick’s Deck would have a limited breeding career, but an important part of his influence has come down through two of his daughters. His daughter A Classy Chick is the dam of the great Chicks Beduino. The foals of Chicks Beduino include horses such as Separatist.
Separatist is a successful sire with foals
like DM Shicago, an All American Futurity winner. Chickarun by Chick’s Deck is the dam of Sixarun, who appeared in the 1985 All American Futurity placing fourth. Sixarun would sire Tres Seis. The Treis Seis foals include Ochoa, an All American Futurity winner and now the all-time leading money winning racehorse.
