Hot Country Miss Jumps The Wire
Hot Country Miss (Fly Jess Fly-Texas Fourwinds, Texas Hero) was in the fifth race
of opening day at Remington Park on March
8 in the trials to the Oklahoma Paint Horse Futurity. Making a wire-to-wire run, the 2-year- old filly approached the finish, saw the shadow at the wire, and prepared to vault herself over the line. Jockey Cody Jensen held on for the ride, and the pair finished 1 1/2-lengths to the good for the fifth qualifying time to the finals.
Racing To The Future Day At Louisiana Downs
The North Caddo Parish 4-H Club spent a day at the races at Louisiana Downs on Feb. 9. Co-sponsored by the LQHBA, AQHA and Louisiana Downs Chaplaincy, among oth- ers, the 40-plus attendees watched morning works and the draw for a race, visited with the stewards and track announcer, and took tours of the jockey room, silks room and barn area. The group attended a breakfast with guest speakers, and the first race of the day was named for the 4-H Club. The winning trainer was Kenny Roberts, who was a guest speaker, making the victory even more special as they gathered in the winner’s circle for the photograph. According to 4-H board member and Executive Director of the Arkla-Tex Agricultural Council Kay Stough, “...this was by far the most interesting, entertaining and organized ‘field trip’ I have ever been on. The Caddo 4-H club was given an up close and personal tour of the Louisiana Downs racing facility and a glimpse of the inside workings of the track.”
RP Increases Overnight Purses
Remington Park increased overnight purses by $500 across the board due to a growing fan base and gaming revenue. The increase will add an addi- tional $250,000 to the already-rich purse schedule.
Trainers Denied Access To Remington Park
Four horse trainers - Karl Broberg, Robert Dimitt, Rodney Harmon and Jeffrey Heath
Reed - asked an Oklahoma County judge to force Remington Park to allow them to participate
in the spring Quarter Horse meet, which began March 8. The judge on March 4, however, stated Remington Park and owner Global Gaming LLC had, “just cause” to deny access to the trainers
and upheld Remington’s position. According to the lawsuit, Dimitt and Harmon were banned because of pending medication violations before the Oklahoma Horse Racing Commission, but have not had a steward’s hearing on the violations. Reed was banned because he was found guilty in New Mexico for medication violations involving Dermorphin and his license was suspended in
the state. Reed obtained a court order, however,
to prevent enforcement until his appeal could be heard. Broberg was banned because he was denied privileges of the American Stud Book for one year due to past medication violations. The attorney for the trainers says they were banned before
being found guilty. Remington Park claimed it has authority to deny access to any trainer who has, “been suspended by other entities or who have unresolved positive tests for certain banned, performance-enhancing substances,” and that they have the right to deny access to anyone for any reason, except those expressly prohibited by law.
