Streakin Down sniffed out his first stakes victory in more than 16 months, beating John The Banker by the nose to claim winner’s honors in the $55,850 Bob Moore Memorial Stakes -G2, held April 14 at Remington Park. Owned by Ed Melzer, Streakin Down had two prior stakes wins but both of those came during the 2010 campaign. After breaking through the gate in his most
recent out, the Leo Stakes at Remington, it was all smooth sailing in the Bob Moore.
Streakin Down broke smoothly from the No. 9 gate underneath Jimmy Brooks, and came on strong from the outside alongside John The Banker to surpass the early leader, Rekles Chic. Streakin Down and John The Banker remained stride for stride
all the way to the wire in a photo finish.
John The Banker’s strong run ended up being moot; an inquiry disqualified him from second to third for interference.
Making a 300-yard trip for the first time since his inaugural start, Streakin Down covered the distance in :15.376 and tallied
a 90 speed index while banking a $29,784 payday for Melzer that boosted the gelding’s
total earnings to $774,097. Trainer Eddie Willis condi- tions Streakin Down, who has won 11 of 24 outs, with six of those wins coming at Remington Park.
Marcus Smith bred both Streakin Down and his dam, First Lady Amber, who Smith also owns. An unraced 2000 mare, First Lady Amber has eight foals and three of those have made starts. Leanintoit, a half-sister to Streakin Down, won three futurities
north of the border last year at Ajax Downs and Fort Erie.
Runner-up Chics Delight (Chicks Doit- Easy Hempen Chic) is owned by Dan Nicks, trained by R.L. Robinson and had Mike Frederick aboard. Dale Kolb trains and co- owns John The Banker (Ivory James-First Place Diamond) with Tina Kolb. Cody Jensen drew the riding assignment.
The remaining order of finish was Paint Me Quickid (PYC Paint Your Wagon-Rustys Quickid), Rekles Chic (Jumpn Chic-La Gallas Reckless), Marys Corazon (Azoom-Streakin O Toole) and Paint A Famous Candy (PYC Paint Your Wagon-This Candys Famous), followed by Wcrseperateandcool (Separatist-BCR Really Cool) and Reba Reba Corona (Corona Cartel- Dashing Little Reba) in a deadheat for eighth. Texasindependencegal was scratched.

   laico Bird Stakes
MADrESiTA
by John Moorehouse
Madresita’s dam, Champion Mongoose Jet Eye, enjoyed a fantastic racing career in which she logged five stakes wins and set a
world record. Her daughter has a long way to go to match those exploits, but took a step in the right direction on April 14 by winning the $34,250 Laico Bird Stakes at Remington Park.
The Eddie Willis trainee wasted little time asserting herself as the front-runner in this stakes for Oklahoma-bred
fillies. Madresita made a
smooth break from the No. 2 gate, found another gear late in the 300-yard event and pulled away from her rivals for the one-length victory.
Jockey Jimmy Brooks rode Madresita into
the winner’s circle after she completed the trip
in :15.867. The victory reaped a $19,992 payday

for owner Rodney Verret, which increased the filly’s total earnings to $32,892.
Madresita now holds two wins in three outs. She started her career in a trial to the Oklahoma Futurity-G2, which she won to set the third-fastest qualifying time. She returned to finish ninth in the finals.
Madresita is the first stakes winner for her sire, Pappasito, whose first crop is racing this year. She is also the first stakes winner out of 2004 Champion
Aged Mare Mongoose Jet Eye, who won 10 races and almost $450,000. Mongoose Jet Eye set a 400-yard world record (:19.018) in the 2004 Championship
at Sunland Park-G1. Mackie Racing bred Madresita and owns Mongoose Jet Eye, who is also the dam of the 2-year-old Pajarita Sita. Pajarita Sita was the fastest qualifier to the West Texas Futurity-G1, and finished
third in the finals that were held one day after the Laico Bird.
Scouts Wagon (PYC Paint Your Wagon- Streaking Bunny) took runner-up honors over Mia Sash by a head. Dan and Louise Jones own Scouts Wagon, trained by Luis Villafranco and ridden by Juan Vazquez. Mia Sash (Shazoom-Sashea) hit the board for owner Tony Doughtie and trainer Toby Keeton. Jesus Salazar was in the irons.
Dynamite Looks (Looks Royal-Dynamite Friends), Klassy Chick (Valiant Hero- Wallstreet Darlin), JA Valiant Miss (Valiant Hero-Missy Nine) and Dashing Alibi V (Woodbridge-Hempen Chics Alibi) rounded out the order of finish. Lala Teeda and Oklahoma Cartel were scratched.
The Laico Bird Stakes is named after the 1967 All American Futurity winner.
