STORMIN THE JEWELS
Continuing to prove himself to be a horse for the Albuquerque Downs course, Stormin The Jewels scored a 1-length victory in the September 15, $70,000 Casey Darnell Stakes (R) for New Mexico-bred Thoroughbreds.
Stormin The Jewels went 5 1/2 furlongs
in 1:03.59 under jockey Jansen Melancon. Fred Danley saddled the bay 5-year-old son of Attila’s Storm for owner J & SM Inc. of Fort Stockton, Texas, which acquired the gelding as a yearling for $30,000 at the 2014 New Mexico-Bred Sale at Ruidoso Downs.
Stormin The Jewels has won six of 22 starts, and three of his five stakes victories have come at The Albuquerque Downs. The gelding was bred by Cynthia H. Dick, and he is one of 17 stakes winners from eight crops sired by Attila’s Storm, a graded stakes winning 16-year-old son of the Storm Cat stallion Forest Wildcat.
Racing between 2004-07, Attila’s Storm won five of 18 starts and banked $534,983, and his two stakes wins included the 2007 Toboggan Handicap (G3) at Aqueduct. The stallion has sired 119 winners and the earners of more than $8.9 million from 159 starters, including multiple stakes winners Thermal, Hush’s Storm, and Little Vidalia.
Attila’s Storm is owned by R.D. Hubbard,
and he stands for a $4,000 fee at Fred and Linda Alexander’s A & A Ranch in Anthony, New Mexico.
Stormin The Jewels is also one of three win- ners from as many starters produced by Bold Jubilation, a winning New York-bred daughter of the Two Punch stallion Smoke Glacken. The gelding is a1/2-brother to B Bold Cindy,
a winning daughter of Desert God who ran third in the ’15 Peppers Pride Handicap (R) at Sunland Park.
Stormin The Jewels’ third dam, the
Palace Music mare Palace Songster, pro-
duced Dynashore, a stakes-placed filly and 1/2- sister to Stormin The Jewels’ second
dam, the unraced Bold Executive mare Boldly Victorious. The gelding traces back to his fourth dam, the Stratus mare Victory Songster. A 1968 foal, Victory Songster foaled stakes winners Regents Rhythm and Golden Answer.
The $42,000 winner’s share of the Casey Darnell Stakes purse increased Stormin The Jewels’ earnings to $441,011, of which $233,282 has been banked from eight outs at The Albuquerque Downs. The gelding won two stakes as a 2-year-old, including the 6-fur-
long, $205,185 Camino Real Futurity (R) at Albuquerque.
