Last month, we shared with readers information about safely disposing
of expired or unwanted prescription medications through you regular trash service . While this is a safe means of disposal, there are also other alternatives.
National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day is Saturday, October 27. From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., the Douglas County Sheri ’s O ce (DCSO) Highlands Ranch substation, located at 9250 Zotos Drive, will be accepting unused or expired prescription and over-the-counter medications for safe disposal. This is a free drive-through service. Items that will NOT be accepted include needles and sharps, thermometers containing mercury, oxygen containers, chemotherapy or radioactive substances, pressurized canisters or elicit drugs.
According to the U.S. Department of Justice Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA), the last national event (held in April of this year) brought in nearly 475 tons of unused or expired prescription medications.
