SCOOTERS
Another great way to discover the island is on two wheels. Scooters can be
rented for a day or a week and no driver’s license is required. Many of the
rental companies also offer scooter tours, which are a great way to discover
the island’s beautiful spots.
TAXI
Taxis can be spotted by a sign on the roof and the letters ‘TX’ on the license
plate. Licensed taxi drivers wear an ID badge and have a sticker inside the
car with information about the driver. Posted rates are valid between 6 am
and 11pm for a maximum of four passengers. A 25% surcharge applies after
11pm. If the journey isn’t metered, be sure to agree on a price beforehand.
Taxi stands can be found at the airport, near many hotels and on the Sha
Caprileskade in Punda.
The Dutch Caribbean Taxi Association (DCTA) offers an app for your
smartphone. Ask for the flyer at your hotel. For each taxi ride, the app sents a
receipt to your e-mail account stating the date, taxi number, name of the taxi
driver, phone number of the taxi driver, car type and the amount paid. DCTA
can be reached between 8am and 6pm at (+5999) 788 566.
