“If I only had one word to describe Communities In Schools,
it would be community. You have to build your community from the center, and you need a strong pillar to anchor you. For me that was Ms. Stirks (my Communities In Schools case manager). So, to an incoming freshman or sophomore, I’d say find your Ms. Stirks and build your community around it.”

Our students and their families experience challenges outside of school that hinder their ability to concentrate in the classroom. With the help of community partners, we remove barriers to learning, provide on-site student support, and connect students and their families with additional resources. Our integrated solutions include programs in case management, literacy, afterschool, and workforce development. Our certified coordinators work in and out of the classroom, serving as positive adult role models.
CASE MANAGEMENT
Our case management program places full-time site coordinators directly in Duval County Public Schools. It offers support for students considered at risk of falling behind or dropping out, providing access to many important services. Our caring site coordinators build strong relationships with students, offering academic assistance, basic needs support, referrals, home visits, college and career readiness, and advocacy.
The Student Enrichment Program
We place dedicated, full-time site coordinators in schools, working closely with approximately 75 students at each site. Through personalized individual and group counseling, we empower students to pursue their dreams while equipping them with essential life skills for success.

“The partnership we have with Communities In Schools has such a positive impact, not only on our attendance data, our behavior data, our course performance data, and even our parent engagement data...but we have also seen tremendous growth with our students in the area of reading because of the support that Communities In Schools provides.”
Achievers for Life
Achievers For Life is a dropout prevention initiative focused on supporting sixth-grade students at risk of school disengagement. We provide these students family support, mentors, and in-school assistance, keeping them on track for high school.
Bridge to Success
Our Bridge to Success Program is dedicated to students who are over-aged for their grade levels. Our site coordinators address all barriers to graduation and provide the necessary support to help these students graduate on time, ready to fulfill their college or career aspirations.
Gear Up
CIS partners with Duval County Public Schools through transformative GEAR UP programs starting with seventh-grade cohorts in 10 middle schools. We follow these students through high school and one year of post-graduation transition.
