SONOGRAPHY OF THE THYROID AND
NECK
• Fine needle aspiration (FNA) is a highly efficient way to determine the character of clinically or sonographically identifiable thyroid nodules.
• The use of sonographic guidance for FNA is especially beneficial.
• During this minimally invasive procedure, the tissue is numbed and a small needle is inserted in the nodule using sonographic guidance.
• An FNA is considered a low-risk procedure.
