ž However, a gestational sac, the earliest definitive sign of an intrauterine pregnancy, should generally be visualized between 1000 and 2000 mIU/mL with transvaginal imaging.
ž The period given to describe the earliest sonographic detection of an intrauterine pregnancy is termed the discriminatory zone.
ž Based on quantitative hCG levels, sonographers can utilize the discriminatory zone and determine if an intrauterine pregnancy should be visualized.
