Down the chimney St. Nicholas He spoke not a word, but
                                     came with a bound. went straight to his work,
                                   He was dressed all in fur,        And filled all the stockings;

                                   from his head to his foot, then turned with a jerk.
                               And his clothes were all tarnished And laying his finger aside of his nose,

                                     with ashes and soot.
                                                                      And giving a nod, up the
                                   A bundle of toys he had chimney he rose.

                                      flung on his back,
                                                                      He sprang to his sleigh, to
                                 And he looked like a peddler his team gave a whistle,
                                    just opening his pack.
                                                                      And away they all fl ew like
                                 His eyes—how they twinkled! the down of a thistle.
                                   his dimples, how merry!
                                                                     But I heard him exclaim, ere
                                  His cheeks were like roses, he drove out of sight—
                                    his nose like a cherry!
                                                                      “Happy Christmas to all,
                                  His droll little mouth was and to all a good night!”
