Challenges and Decisions
According to FDR, the biggest challenge Metro Pacific leaders face

in the toll road business revolves around toll rate adjustments and
right-of-way along with determining the most beneficial project to
develop. Being in Business Development, he gives two advices — (1)

critical analysis of the opportunity, that is, explain all the factors and
benefits to the company; (2) be creative and think out of the box in

        the implementation of the idea.

        Learning

For FDR nothing beats experience although he recommends lead-
ers to read a wide variety of resources like newspaper, books, etc. He

also learned from his bosses like Joey Lim (MPIC President, CEO & Ex-
ecutive Director), Rod Franco (MPTC President and CEO), and Manny
        Pangilinan (MPIC Chairman).

        Leadership

FDR believes the most important character of a leader is integrity,
that is, no shortcuts in reaching the objectives. For him, arrogance
and know it all attitude makes leaders fail since they fail to listen to

suggestions or be open to learn at any age.

FDR’s sharing of leadership experience was short and simple. A pri-
vate person, he shows his funny side in between his sharings.
