To write an analytical exposition text, writer should consider the structure of the text.

In an exposition text, you should;
• State your opinion in the thesis statement.

• Support your opinion with reasons.

• Support your reasons with specific details.

Introductory paragraph in analytical exposition text

Remember the introductory paragraph has two parts: (1) general statement or hook, (2)
thesis statement.

The hook

Do you know what a hook is? Hook is found in the end of fishing pole and is used to catch
fish. In writing, a hook is a sentence or sentences to catch readers’ attention at the

beginning of essay. Hook can be questions, quotes, descriptions, or other interesting
information that attract the readers.

Thesis statement
The key statement in essay is thesis statement. The thesis statement gives the reader a clean

idea what the essay will discuss. The thesis statement is usually the last sentence in the

introduction.
